Prior to the Division B Contest March 21 in Kanata, the Area 10 Speech Contests were held in Pem-

broke with competitors from the Arnprior Toastmasters, Valley Vintage Advanced Toastmasters, and the Renfrew Toastmasters clubs. A special award, a Triple Crown pin, was presented to Lenore Whelan by the District 61 executive. It is a new incentive pin from Toastmasters International for members who have completed three or more education awards in one year. Whelan is a member of both the Arnprior Toastmasters Club (where she serves as president) and Valley Vintage Toastmasters (where she serves as secretary).  Stephanie Blackmore, a new Toastmaster from Arnprior, competed as a contestant in the English Table Topics contest. Lynne Zander represented Valley Vintage in the French Table Topics and took first place. Tracy Franken won third in the International Speech Competition. Speech contests provide an opportunity for speakers to improve their speaking abilities and recognize the best as encouragement to all as well as provide an opportunity to learn by observing other speakers.
