PROBLEEMGEORIËNTEERD DENKEN IN HET MANAGEMENT VAN DE LUCHTWEG EEN PRAKTIJKBOEK VOOR DE OPLEIDING EN DE KLINIEK

SONOANATOMY FOR ANAESTHETISTS

The accuracy with which clinicians can locate nerves and blood vessels has increased greatly with the development of portable handheld ultrasound scanners, and no specialty has felt the benefit more than anesthesia. This practical atlas of ultrasound anatomy addresses the two main challenges for anyone learning ultrasound-guided techniques: 1. Where do I place the probe? 2. What exactly am I looking at? Each nerve block or vascular access site is illustrated with: • An anatomical line illustration • A clinical photograph showing the correct ultrasound probe position • The ultrasound scan • A line illustration of the scan labelled to indicate the salient anatomical features All relevant anatomic regions are included: upper limb, lower limb, neck, thorax and abdomen. Concise notes for each entry indicate scan landmarks and give useful tips and advice on potential complications.

ANALGESIA, ANAESTHESIA AND PREGNANCY 3/e 5/e

A PRACTICAL GUIDE

Thoroughly updated for its fifth edition, this handbook is a complete, convenient, and practical guide to perioperative management of neurosurgical patients. In a quickreference outline format, the book provides detailed instructions on anesthetic management during all neurosurgical and neuroradiologic procedures and on intensive care of neurosurgical patients and patients with head injury.

This book focuses on pre-empting problems and maximising quality of care. Every chapter has been completely updated and revised. All aspects of obstetric medicine relevant to the anaesthetist are covered, from pre-pregnancy management to conception, throughout pregnancy, to postnatal care. The authors have identified over 150 potential complications, each covered in two parts: ‘problems/special considerations’ and ‘management options’, with key points prominently displayed for quick reference.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT IN NEUROCRITICAL CARE (NIP - NEUROLOGY IN PRACTICE SERIES)

“Pocket ICU” will be a new addition to the “Pocket Notebook” series. Like “Sabatine”, it will cover core clinical data that is often needed while on the wards or in the OR, presented in a telegraphic style, stripped of scientific background. It will present only information that you need to know in order to accomplish a clinical task, not necessarily information that you need for boards, etc. Like the other books in the series, “Pocket ICU” will be designed for easy transport and quick access. The audience will include residents in both medicine and surgery, practitioners, and nurses. Content coverage will be brief but broad, encompassing all the subspecialty areas of critical care including adult and pediatric critical care, neuro-critical care, cardiac critical care, transplant, burn, and neonatal critical care.

Rapid response, assessment and management are crucial for neurocritical situations. Acute neurological illness is traumatic for patients and their families. Physicians caring for these patients are often under great distress and need to rapidly assess the situation to allow appropriate stabilization and management.

PHYSIOLOGICAL REVIEWS AND EDITORIALS

The two previous editions of Applied Physiology in Intensive Care Medicine proved extremely successful, and the book has now been revised and split into two volumes to enhance ease of use. This first volume comprises three elements -- “physiological notes,” “technical notes,” and seminal studies. The physiological notes concisely and clearly capture the essence of the physiological perspectives underpinning our understanding of disease and response to therapy. The technical notes then succinctly explain some of the basics of “how to” in this technology-centered field of critical care medicine. Finally, a number of seminal studies are provided on diverse topics in intensive care. Applied Physiology in Intensive Care has been written by some of the most renowned experts in the field and provides an up-to-date compendium of practical bedside knowledge essential to the effective delivery of acute care medicine. It will serve the clinician as an invaluable reference source on key issues regularly confronted in everyday practice.

THE NEUROICU BOOK

HANDBOEK MULTIORGAANFALEN

The first practical, protocol-based guide to the emerging field of neurocritical care. The goal of neurological critical care is to rapidly deliver acute medical therapies and appropriate interventions through effective monitoring of both neurological and end organ function. The NeuroICU Book puts that goal within the reach of every neurologist and critical care specialist.

Combining the latest clinical perspectives in critical care medicine, neurology, and neurosurgery, this comprehensive, evidencebased text standardizes neurocritical care and takes you through the rationale for those standards. Filled with detailed case studies and featuring a question-and-answer format, the book not only builds competency in recognizing acute changes in neurological function, but also addresses all organ insufficiencies and failures, reflecting the real-life challenges in the modern neuro-ICU.

SDD is an antimicrobial prophylaxis to prevent severe infections that has been proved to reduce inflammation; there is now evidence that SDD using parenteral and enteral antimicrobials reduces rather than increases antimicrobial resistance. Latest results are here taken into account. The outbreak chapter is substantially reduced and builds on the previous issue.
