leave well enough alone hit one’s stride throw a curveball fair game let the chips fall where they may put a band-aid on bad news get one’s ass handed to one
cry wolf a sucker for sitting pretty out of whole cloth nip st in the bud from the get-go give sb the stinkeye a power trip
Oh for crying out loud, you just can’t leave well enough alone, can you? • We are much more open with each other now, and we’re really hitting our stride as a family. • You may very well have agreed to one kid, but life likes to throw curveballs. • My boss shrugged it off and said that I’m fair game now that I’m 18. • Pick a date that you assume will work for most, and let the chips fall where they may. • Otherwise we run the risk of putting a band-aid on an issue that’ll raise its ugly head again. • I mean, you took one look at that man and you knew that he was bad news. • The landlord’s a sucker for a sob story. I don’t know how he’s ever ever going to evict me. • Sure, if you want to get your ass handed to you by my fiancé, go right ahead. • To make things worse, she hasn’t done herself any favors by constantly crying wolf. • They are sitting pretty on their Wall Street money playing God with other people’s livelihoods. • We just made up shit out of whole cloth to distract from the bad stuff we were doing. • It’s better to tell him now and nip it in the bud rather than let him get his hopes up. • Turns out there’s a door charge, too. As a result, everyone is pissed off from the get-go. • Straight away I noticed the night receptionist giving us the stink eye. • Holy shit, this person has no business being a cop. He’s on a power trip. • I wonder if I should have left well enough alone. It seems like me trying to help just made things worse. • My freakout was a result of having a curveball thrown at me that I wasn’t expecting. • I’ve been painting for quite a while, but I feel like I’m really hitting my stride now. • Well, when it comes to Lauren, everyone’s fair game. She put the moves on me one time, too. • Isn’t it better to just get this clown show over with and let the chips fall where they may? • If you want peace of mind, you’d better fix this problem instead of just putting a bandaid on it. • You seem to be sitting pretty for a guy who should be in the thick of his midlife crisis. • You’ve never been able to leave well enough alone. You always take it one step too far.
Ok. So what happens the next time your son dates a girl that you decide is bad news? • The fight didn’t last long, some teachers broke it up. But I got my ass handed to me. • We don’t have to cry wolf each time a girl likes to sleep in her parents’ bed, do we? • He invented his resumé from whole cloth. If it was up to me, he’d be out on his ass. • Wouldn’t you rather nip it in the bud instead of waiting for it to become a problem? • They made it clear to us from the get-go that strip clubs were off limits. • Dan’s a sucker for a pretty picture, and he’s slowly saving up to get this big-ass TV. • You’ve been giving me the stink-eye all day long. What’s that all about? • Leah gets off on having every guy wrapped around her finger. It’s a power trip. • My boss says the same thing. She doesn’t really hit her stride until after the morning coffee kicks in. • I can only image what a curveball 2020 was to those in their final year of school. • If you’re wearing a blue jersey, you’re fair game and there’s a chance you’ll get hit. • You spoke your piece, you made it clear how you felt, now let the chips fall where they may. • We haven’t had the resources to do more than put a band-aid on the problem. • Oh man, I should have known that guy was bad news from the day he signed on. • Shitty behavior has consequences. These people need to have their asses handed to them. • I guess I cried wolf one too many times for them to believe that this one was legit. • I always told my dad he was a sucker for putting other people’s needs and wants ahead of his own. • Sometimes meddling is just meddling, and it needs to be nipped in the bud. • As long as you can put 15% of what you make into this account, you’ll be sitting pretty in 40 years. • That night he sat me down and we had a conversation we should have had from the get-go. • But why do I keep getting the stink-eye for calling the kids’ names out loud when they hide in a store? • It’s just a myth. Somebody made it up out of whole cloth. • They decided to go on a power trip and locked the page to keep it from being edited.

leave well enough alone
The rating system is another major failure. Why oh why can’t you leave well enough alone? Have you sold out and don’t give a crap about your users anymore? You keep making all these weird changes that do not help at all. In fact, all they do is make things more complicated and frustrating.
Goddammit, can’t you guys leave well enough alone for once? ◾ You know very well that I have never been able to leave well enough alone, I always take it one step too far. ◾ Dude. You should have left well enough alone. You were lucky you didn't get caught following her. ◾ As a species, we humans aren’t very good at leaving well enough alone.

hit one’s stride
I could have been valedictorian in high school if it hadn’t been for girls. Girls were a major distraction to me, they slowed me down academically, and they were the reason I didn’t really hit my stride until grad school. Looking back, I wish there was a way your hormones didn’t really kick in until you were out of college. I’ve been painting for quite a while, but I feel like I really hit my stride this year. ◾ My boss says she doesn’t really hit her stride until after the coffee kicks in. ◾ Thankfully, we’re much closer now. We are really hitting our stride as a family.
first of all, learn how to let enough well alone

throw a curveball
Well. that’s just how it is. Life throws you a curveball every now and then. There’s no avoiding it. All you can do is stay on your toes and try not to get caught completely off guard. My advice would be, be ready for things not to go according to plan, and when shit does go sideways, just roll with it.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I have as much respect for the police as the next guy. They have a job to do, and having been a big-time criminal my whole life, I’m fair game, no two ways about it. If they catch me, there will be no hard feelings on my part. But it’s only fair that my family is off-limits.
We may have agreed on just one kid, but hey, life throws curveballs sometimes. ◾ I can only imagine what a curveball 2020 was to the seniors. ◾ I hate it when I get a curveball thrown at me that knocks me off my game like that. ◾ These financial curveballs have must have left them stretched.
My boss shrugged it off and said that I’m fair game now that I’m 18. ◾ When it comes to Lauren, everyone’s fair game. She once put the moves on me too. ◾ Sorry, but if you’re going too slow in the left lane, you’re fair game. ◾ Any land left untended for too long should be fair game for anyone who stays there long enough.

If I had just one shot at making my partner reconsider and stay, I guess I’d go with balls-to-the-wall honesty. I would just put it all out there and let the chips fall where they may. It may work, it may not. Either way, you’ll be able to move on knowing that you gave it your best shot.

put a band aid on st I understand why you feel guilty, and I applaud you for trying to put things right between you and your parents. But sending them money is just putting a band aid on a deeper problem. It’s not really going to help them in the long run, and you’ll end up being financially screwed too.
Just pick a date that you assume will work for most and let the chips fall where they may. ◾ Isn’t it better to just put it out there and let the chips fall where they may? ◾ You have said your piece and you have made it very clear how you feel about the deal. Now let the chips fall where they may.
You’re just putting a band-aid on the issue for a few years at best, kicking the can down the road. ◾ Look, if you want peace of mind, you’d better fix the damn problem instead of putting a bandaid on it. ◾ Sadly, we haven’t had the resources to do more than put a band-aid on the problem.

All we did was take one look at the kid and we knew he was bad news. ◾ What are you going to do the next time your son dates a girl that you think is bad news? ◾ I should have known that guy was bad news from the day he signed on. ◾ I’d never eat a bag of apples. I’ve been on the phone just now getting my ass handed to me by your accusers, and there wasn’t a damn thing I could say in your defense. What you did was dead wrong. To call it inexcusable behavior is an understatement. Shitty behavior has consequences, and these guys need to have their asses handed to them. ◾ The fight didn’t last long, a teacher broke it up, but I got my ass handed to me. ◾ Sure, if you want to get your ass handed to you by my fiancé, go right ahead and say it out loud in front of him. you guys really handed us our asses last night i had handed to me my ass

Creative people start off fine, but once they get eaten by the fame and money monster, they show their true colors. Some stay humble, some go off the rails, and some turn into raging egomaniacs. It’s hard to predict, and I’d be lying if I said I knew exactly who each of you was from the get-go.

And girl, you truly made it happen for your sister. This could not have turned out better. Why play games? I’ll just declare my feelings for her and let the chips fall where they may. If she doesn’t reciprocate, her loss. I beg to differ. My gut tells me that woman’s bad news, and my gut’s never wrong. When this goes tits up, don’t come crying to me. Be careful. There’s only so many times a person can cry wolf before everyone stops giving them the benefit of the doubt. At first I was going to let it slide. Then I thought, it’s the first week, boundaries need to be set, I’d better nip this in the bud.

I made the mistake of not leaving well enough alone, and went back out. After a couple more drinks, I realized I was wasted. Adulthood is basically pretending to have your shit together while dealing with the many curveballs that keep coming your way. Well, it kind of feels like we’re just putting a band-aid on this problem and kicking the can down the road instead of really fixing it. To be honest, we didn’t really hit our stride until the fourth video game we worked on together. But we knocked that one out of the park. The class has been clear on this rule from the get-go. If a kid forgets their book, they get it from their locker, or grab a random one. At the time, it seemed like it would make enough of a splash in the industry that I’d be sitting pretty for the rest of my life.
Based on that call, I’m beginning to suspect that there really is no logic to any of it. They seem to simply make up these fees out of whole cloth. And before you try to convince me it’s all about saving people for you, it’s really not. It’s a power trip, plain and simple. It’s disturbing, but if we cry wolf every time there’s a shooting, we’ll lose credibility and we’ll run the risk of not being taken seriously. I never ever messed with my sister. She has a good heart and I don’t punch down. My two brothers were fair game, though. Too much of this road repair work has been patchwork—putting a band-aid on something that needs major surgery. I’ll let him wear what he wants to wear and let the chips fall where they may. It may open some people’s eyes to what he’s really like.
POKUD ZTROPÍME POVYK • TÍM SI JEN NĚCO DOKAZUJEŠ • OD PRVNÍHO MOMENTU • AŤ TO UTNU V ZÁRODKU • NEŽ SE DO TOHO POŘÁDNĚ DOSTANEŠ • VŮČI NIM JSEM ŽÁDNÉ OHLEDY NEMĚL • DO VŠEHO MUSÍM POŘÁD VRTAT • ÚPLNĚ SI TO VYCUCAJÍ Z PRSTU • A UVIDÍME, CO Z TOHO BUDE • SKUTEČNÉ PROBLÉMY SE NEŘEŠÍ • SCHYTAL STRAŠNÝ VÝPRASK • MÁMA HO ÚPLNĚ ŽERE
It takes years to hit your stride as a teacher. I mostly flew by the seat of my pants early on, and just made it up as I went along. My mom is a sucker for my brother. She’s always defending him, making excuses for him, and downplaying his many meltdowns. As it happened, the fight was over within seconds and once again karate guy got his ass handed to him. He goes on and on about politics and since I’m one of those people that can’t leave well enough alone, I always end up getting sucked in. As a new adult I’m trying to figure out what problems I have or am going to have personality-wise so I can nip them in the bud. Be open and honest right from the get-go. If they don’t accept you, then it just wasn’t meant to be, suck it up and move on.
Just when you think you have him all figured out, he throws you a curveball. You were right, the guy does contain multitudes. I ended up having to schlep all the way home because no one believed me. Let me tell you, it sure cured me of crying wolf. Now, if your parents were financially struggling while you and your sisters were sitting pretty, that would be a different story. There’s a difference between exaggerating your skills and flat out lying. Making up a college education whole-cloth is lying, no two ways about it. We’ve had ‘the talk’ by now. So when she goes overboard, I give her the stinkeye and she knows immediately I’m on to her. It’s not just you. The year 2020 has been rough for everybody. Look at me, I’m getting my ass handed to me left and right, too.
DO OSTATNÍCH SE STREFOVAT MŮŽETE • ZAMRAČÍM SE NA NI • A CO BUDE, TO BUDE • VYVOLÁVAT PANIKU • ON SI TÍM JEN NĚCO DOKAZUJE • BYLI JSTE FINANČNĚ ZA VODOU • Z TOHO NEKOUKÁ NIC DOBRÉHO • NĚČÍM TĚ ZASKOČÍ • Z ČISTÉ VODY SI VYMYSLET • HNED ZKRAJE TO UTNU • SCHYTÁVÁM TO ZE VŠECH STRAN • KDYBYCH DO VŠEHO FURT NERÝPAL
Every instinct in me is telling me that man is bad news. Would I be overstepping the mark if I went and reported him to the authorities?
I don’t get it. How can the U.S. golf team, with so much talent, keep getting their ass handed to them by European players?
Think of it this way. Nick is on a power trip. The reason he throws his weight around is because he has nothing else going on in his life.
It’s the fifth time our AC broke. This time we finally got them to actually replace the broken item instead of just putting a band-aid on it.
How come Muslims are such special little snowflakes who can’t have their feelings hurt, but everyone else is fair game? If anything fell through, I’d be stuck twiddling my thumbs. No, I’d rather pack my schedule full and let the chips fall where they may. I can’t believe I did it again. If I had just kept my damn mouth shut and left well enough alone, we wouldn’t be in this mess. I think I have already covered this elsewhere, but let me swoop in and nip this in the bud before I get asked the same question a dozen more times.
Calm down, both of you. Everything that happened was totally above board. You’re just creating drama from whole cloth. This particular driver likes to go on a bit of a power trip, putting his stop sign out even when there are no kids around. Mom doesn’t approve of Bryan. She doesn’t want me dating him. She thinks he’s bad news and I’d be better off without him. I thought life had thrown me a curveball that day. But maybe it actually did me a favor. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise.
POŘÁDNĚ JÍ TO ZAČALO ŠLAPAT • ŽE JE TAKHLE VÁLCUJÍ • NEPOŽÍVÁŠ ŽÁDNÉ OCHRANY • HNED OD PRVNÍHO DNE • RÁD SI POSILUJE SEBEVĚDOMÍ • PŘINESE TO JEN SAMÉ PROBLÉMY • ÚPLNĚ Z NIČEHO SI VYTVÁŘÍTE • JEN TO NĚJAK ZALEPILI • ŠKAREDĚ SE NA MĚ PODÍVALI • PŘICHYSTAL MI PĚKNOU PODPÁSOVKU • JSEM BLÁZEN DO HEZKÉ POKOŽKY • A BUDEŠ MÍT VYSTARÁNO
You make the bed you lie in. If you choose fame over peace of mind, you’re fair game. The second you went on a reality TV show, you put a target on your back. The house sounds like it’s worth a lot. If you sell it and buy a new place outright, you’ll be sitting pretty with no drama. I would have gotten even more stuff if Mom and Dad didn’t keep giving me the stink-eye every time I grabbed something off the shelf. I’m a sucker for good skin, and your acne and scars just bother the hell out of me looks-wise. But you’d be a stunner with makeup. Nicola spent her 20s figuring out who she really was. She didn’t hit her stride until her mid-30s. I can relate to that, sure. From the get-go, Mark was very protective of the script. Trying to get him to change anything was like pulling teeth.
