DONG – Kinetic Wind Sculpture

My Concept is on perception , How do we react to our changing perceptions of our self. Looking at ourselves in a dystopia context . Context where we are desperate to see our self image ornamented in the windows of social media. Inspired from the great film by Bert Haanstra “ Spiegel of Holland “ . The Idea was to explore the perception of ours own self reflection , once it is hindered by breaking the surface tension . Performed experiments so as to analyze the behavior of water surface movements , ripples , waves which changes the image of our self when we look on it . Tried experimenting with different types of liquid, their viscosity and properties of vessels . Tried to analyze the relations of image formation and deformation on water with constant image formers such as Concave mirror .

A Logical synergy was worked when placed a concave mirror was left on the surface to float , wind energy with the help of a propeller was induced in mechanism which would continuously hit the metal vessel to break the surface tension and produces ripples which would further initiate the movement in the concave mirror on the surface. Viewers were forced to move their position or lean over the water vessel like a hovering snake , keeping its position still and just hovering by the upper body , in order to grab their self image , due to the movement of the floating concave mirror on the surface of the water . Relating this phenomenon with our current social context engulfed by the wide range of social media image makers , and we follow them blindly to get a glimpse of our self. Surface of the water . Relating this phenomenon with our current social context engulfed by the wide range of social media image makers , and we follow them blindly to get a glimpse of our self. All them realized by a Breeze. All them realized by Breeze.

PILLAR OF NARCISSSISM Interactive Installation

Narcissism understood as the libido that has been withdrawn from the external world and has been directed to the ego and thus given rise to an attitude which maybe called narcissism or megalomania (over valuation of the self or the withdrawal of interest from people or things). The object cathexes which can be sent out and withdrawn back again resembled the phenomenon of an Echo. This phenomenon of echo leads the psyche to project narcissistic traits such as grandiosity, leadership and authority, exhibitionism ,entitlement , exploitativenesss. The project is an attempt to understand the phenomenon. Metaphor of an Iron Pillar was extracted from the phenomenon. An iron pillar which is self sufficient , appears to stand tall , taller than the social millennia , self made of iron , everything that hits deflects back , symbol of perfectionism , exhibitionism. Medium Monitor as mirror. Video is capable of recording and transmitting at the same time producing instant feedback .The body is therefore centered between two machines that are opening and closing of an parenthesis. First camera and second is the monitor. Human psyche using as a conduit to transfer the message.

THE ESSENCE OF STREET ART IN INDIA – THE CASE OF NEW DELHI

Research Paper Coordinator: Ms.Ritu Verma

RESEARCH PAPER IN ARCHITECTURE 2013-2014

Submitted by:00316901610/SSAA/B.Arch./10

SUSHANT SCHOOL OF ART AND ARCHITECTURE GURGAON

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT The satisfaction and euphoria that accompany the successful completion of any task would be incomplete without the mention of people who made it possible and under the constant guidance of whom , I was able to complete this paper. I wish to offer sincere gratitude to my research paper coordinator Prof. Ritu Verma who gave me constant guidance and support while writing this paper. I also, whole heartedly, want to thank my guide Mark Warner for his positive comments and negative critique without which my research paper would be incomplete. Needless to say I did not take on every change that my guide suggested but I am inspired by his vision , courage and his unique way of approaching architecture and also understanding my obsession towards this topic.

ABSTRACT TOPIC OF RESEARCH: The essence of Street Art in India: Case of New Delhi Keywords: Street, public space , graffiti, mural, revitalization ,beautification, vandalism, urban village, public art.

Aim: Investigation of Indian street art, trying and establishing the essence of street art in India. Objective:

      

 Understanding the concept of street art, relation of street and art.  Understanding the definition of street art in west and its context. Understanding the context initiating street art production in India. Investigating the effects of street art on urban spaces of Indian cities. Comparative study of Indian street art to that of the western word. Analysis of spaces and location of street art . Effects of the street art on the public realm. Case study of New Delhi. Exploring the identity of street art in New delhi . Understanding the possible role of street art in redefining public spaces and streets of India.

Scope of Study: The research paper will take New Delhi as the scope of study. Studying the street art scenario of New Delhi .It will study the context of the city which is expressing street art. The paper will draw a study on western street art and New Delhi’s street art. Why the Study is important at this point of time? As India undergoes a demographic shift from the rural to the urban, old ideas of urban space will need to be changed to accommodate the unique interaction between the forces of privatisation. Need of so called modern views of space emphasizing on civic beautification. India as a palimpsest of different histories, cultures, languages, processes etc. however, it’s is true that the Indian urban space is such an interaction of multiple imagined geographies. Street art can be a modern medium to nurture all of these together, since street performance had been an important part of the Indian society ever since mythical figure Rama was born, street art can be a modern medium to revive the Indian culture in the moulds of modernity. Need for means to activate public spaces and beautify the cityscape. As “cities are never random “ ,street art defining the language and concept of the city. Street art giving a character to the space, making the space jazzy .sometimes changing dead spaces to good airy spaces inviting the public attention.

Act as a narrative , that directly opposes the capitalist system of production and elicits new ways of thinking from readers and viewers. Street art incorporates visuals with its text to become a medium of communication that coincides with modern day advertisements.

Methodology: 

The primary collection of data would happen through site visits, interviews, data collection and qualitative analysis. New Delhi will be the primary study

Collection of secondary data through the various agencies related to street art and interviews and consultation of experts in the respective fields.

PRIMARY CASE STUDY  New Delhi Street Art scenario  Artist Interviews – DAKU , YANTR ,INKBRUSHNME,B.A.P PROJECT, HENDRIK BEIKIRCH

CONCLUSION

Expected Outcomes: This paper will be an encouragement to incorporate street art in urban design and other architectural design process. Including street art in designing urban spaces and buildings. As street art is a strong visual interaction between mass mob and the city portraying a nations story, then why not including street art as tool to make or urban environment and architecture more visually appealing and functionally sound.
