Touching Lives. Reaching Generations. “At Arms of Hope I found many ‘moms’ who took me in, loved me unconditionally — ‘moms’ I could go to for advice and guidance, which I had never had before. They are Godly women who offered me a safe place and provided grace and mercy. I know that someday I will be an awesome mother because of the examples and influences of my ‘moms’ at Arms of Hope!” - Leeza Dear Friend, Mother’s Day is a day when we honor the special relationship between a mother and child — a loving, caring and nurturing relationship. It is a relationship we carry with us for the rest of our lives and forms the foundation on which so much else in our lives, including patience, trust and forgiveness, is built. So where does that leave a girl like Leeza, who when she came to Arms of Hope had never had that loving and trusting relationship with any mother figures in her life? Instead, she had a mother who was addicted to drugs and could not take care of her. She had a step-grandmother who took her in for 12 years, but did not protect her from physical, emotional and sexual abuse, and in whose house Leeza witnessed drugs and frequent violence. Then things went from bad to worse for Leeza. She was sent to live with other family members, where she experienced the worst kinds of abuse you can imagine. She was beaten. She was belittled. She was deprived of food. Leeza arrived at Arms of Hope on Apri1 4th, 2009 at She was without hope. the age of 16 years old. In 2011, she graduated from high school and completed our Residential Child Care Program. Leeza is currently in Arms of Hope’s College and Career program and she will graduate from the Aveda Institute in five months with her certification in Cosmetology.
It’s tragic that Leeza has had such a terrible past. No child should ever be treated that way! To be honest, I have often worried about her future. That’s because Leeza never had the opportunity, as a young child, to form the natural, healthy emotional bonds with a mother figure — the bonds that are so critical for a child’s development. As Leeza herself puts it, “I didn’t trust people, especially females.” Thankfully, these days I’m not worried about Leeza anymore. Now she is here with us, safe and loved at Arms of Hope because of the faithful support of caring friends like you! With the help of the generous donations you send, Leeza’s physical needs have all been met. She has been safe, well taken care of and
educated. She no longer has to live in fear! I wonder if you also know how much the experience at Arms of Hope helps to heal the pain children have endured, give them blessings of hope and faith, and nurture them with the trusting relationships that children need so much. Leeza definitely wants you to know about her experience with us: “At Arms of Hope I found many ‘moms’ who took me in, loved me unconditionally — ‘moms’ I could go to for advice and guidance, which I had never had before. They are Godly women who offered me a safe place and provided grace and mercy. I know that someday I will be an awesome mother because of the examples and influences of my ‘moms’ at Arms of Hope!” So often, the child who grows up with abuse learns to be abusive or to endure abuse in other relationships … while the child who grows up without solid, foundational bonds grows up unable to form healthy, loving, lifelong relationships. It is up to us to break the destructive cycle and I know we have done it with Leeza! When she decides to become a mom one day, I know she will pass on the lessons of love, faith, trust, patience and forgiveness that she has learned here at Arms of Hope, thanks to the generous gifts you send. At Arms of Hope, Leeza has found hope,
That’s why I hope you’ll think of your donation to Arms of Hope as a health and healing and now knows how to pass on the lessons of love, faith, trust, gift that truly keeps on giving (like a mother’s love). Yes, your donapatience and forgiveness to others. tions allow us to help children right here and now, taking them out of danger. Yes, you even help us care for mothers and children, keeping them together and safe, instead of out on the street. I also believe some of the real benefits of your “investments” will be realized many years from now … in healthy, loving families … and in love that gets passed from one generation to the next. This is what Arms of Hope’s tagline - “Touching Lives. Reaching Generations.” is all about! Today, in honor of Mother’s Day, won’t you please make your most generous and caring gift to Arms of Hope as an investment in helping children, who never have known what it means to have a “real mother” until they came to Arms of Hope? If you wish, you may even dedicate your gift to your mother or another mother you love and we will send a beautiful Mother’s Day card to your mother, informing her about your wonderful donation in her honor! Thank you for giving today — just as generously as you can. Sincerely,
