CARMINA BURANA ARMONICO CONSORT & BIRMINGHAM CONSERVATOIRE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA SINGERS FROM AC ACADEMY DIRECTOR | CHRISTOPHER MONKS Young people from our AC Academies Choirs will join Armonico Consort’s professional singers and the Birmingham Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra to perform this extraordinary work, made famous most recently by The X Factor, to create a spectacular event. Inspired by a large collection of secular poems from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, the German composer Carl Orff completed Carmina Burana in 1937 and described it as a “scenic cantata” made of “songs for soloists and choruses, accompanied by instruments and magic images”.

MONTEVERDI VESPERS OF 1610 ARMONICO CONSORT & BAROQUE ORCHESTRA DIRECTOR | CHRISTOPHER MONKS A towering masterpiece of the early Baroque and one of the greatest pillars of music history, Monteverdi Vespers of 1610 offer a stunning array of brilliant instrumental writing, opulent choruses and moving arias. Over 400 years ago this astounding work marked the end of the Renaissance and the beginning of the Baroque. The publication in 1610 almost certainly helped Monteverdi gain the prestigious post of maestro di cappella at St Mark’s in Venice, which he kept until his death in 1643.
“An excellent all-round performance, in which Monks led and inspired a thoroughly good ensemble and displayed the sublime music of the master to its best.” Birmingham Post
