Club Deportivo Tenerife vs CD Marino

Player Notes At the time of printing, it is unknown if Ochoa has joined us from Guijelo. It seems the press are ready to criticise, but to be fair, Quique’s acquisitions this season have been well judged. Also part of the deal involves German and Abel going the other way. Marinos’ move to sign Ayoze Placeres on a free transfer is also back on, after a breakdown in talks last week.

SUR Diaries

Date: 25th April 2010 Place: Madrid Event: Atlético vs CDT A bar just a few doors before our Torrelaguna hotel kidnapped us and made us drink beer and eat free lavish tapas before we could check in on the day before the match. A quiet sophisticated night in the centre of Madrid followed – except for buckets of Coronita, friendly professional ladies at Gran Via, an anti fascist demo in Sol plaza, and Tolf dancing in a salsa bar. The General had adjourned to see Brit band Ghostcat across the city after losing Gordon and Kirsty. A 3am hotel return ensured we slept well despite being haunted by the thought of what El General had in his small plastic bag! We were full of beans when we arose on match day (that explains the smelly rooms) a few of us headed to the La Latina market and a bar crawl into Plaza Mayor for some sun kissed beers as we watched a headless man, Mickey Mouse, and Charlie Chaplin and got blessed by Jesus –

To celebrate 20 years of Armada Sur here’s a series of glimpses into our finest moments. another of the street artists. Converging on our usual Irish sports bar our group was swelled by the Kent house party ravers before we were scraped into taxis for the stadium. Our Primera life was slipping away. A back page programme ad for erectile disfunction seemed an omen that we wouldn’t stay up. The 500 CDT fans made some impact on the 50,000 crowd but with Hector having a mare we slipped behind and despite a Roman goal, Forlan set up Aguero to round off a 3-1 home win. We got a bit separated on a walk and taxi trip back to Madrid centre but several beers eased the loss and a sporadic return to our hotel led to x-rated snoring and an early rise for the 4am airport taxi. Happy days.

"Footballs a funny old game" someone said, but I hope we are not saying that at the end of this match. I suppose if QPR can win at Chelsea, anything is possible, so we have to stick to our gameplan today and keep up the superb home form. To concede only three goals at home so far this season, shows great concentration. Players who have come up trumps recently are Suso and Cristo Martin, both Tenerife lads. In fact slowly but surely the club are bringing through the local youth, which is good for the future (as long as we can keep hold of them!) Our top scorer Aridane although, has slowed up in recent games, and it has been said that the Fred Olsen ferry turns quicker than him. And the other forward Guillem Marti is a bit of a headless chicken. Nevertheless, we are top! However, It looks as if CD Marino are heading straight back to the Tercera. They have failed to capture the imagination of the football fans in the south, and if they have been poor on the pitch they have been worse off it. It is a great shame, as I am sure the south has the population & money to sustain a team in Segunda B. Today some fans will protest about the kick-off times and coverage of home games on local tv. Three out of the last four have been live on TV, and the armchair fans seem to have more respect than the people that actually go along to matches. Enjoy it today, I am sure it certainly will not be a thrashing as many predict. This is a derby after all, although our only real derby is against that mob from across the water!!
