Who Are Ya?
A certain Rafa Benitez gave Sergio Aragoneses his CD Tenerife debut at Albacete way back in 2000, it was a 1-0 defeat in the first of two spells between our sticks. Last weeks game at Rayo Vallecano B was Sergio’s 200th league appearance for the mighty blanquiazul, and he is still as sprightly as ever. We have been lucky to see the Pontevedra born keeper mature as a player and a person, in those early days on the rock he could have given Charlie Sheen or Oliver Reed a few tips on “having fun”. One year at Carnaval time Sergio turned up at a Santa Cruz basketball game dressed as a cat and ran onto the court swaying rather a lot and was asked to leave. Sergio has had some tough times to endure as well, twice he has beaten testicular cancer and he was also missed the end of the 2008-09 season with acute pancreatitis. Rising through all these challenges Sergio has become a legend in Tenerife, his performances in our Primera season were amazing and as CDT slipped down two divisions he must have had loads of offers to play at a higher level but has been loyal to the colours. After he retires from playing maybe Sergio will take up a place in the diplomatic service, we know one referee who has already been impressed at his special way with words.

If I was president of CDT, or when I become president of CDT, I would make certain changes. The "Ath Bilbao" model would be utopia, where they only allow Basque players to wear the sacred shirt. Would it work here? It would take years but the Canary Islands does have talented youth coming through. Shamefully many youngsters are taken by clubs in Spain, think Pedro at Barcelona or David Silva at Man City. How can clubs like Villarreal, Valencia, Barcelona etc be allowed to set up soccer camps on the Island? And not only that get sponsorship from local companies. Even Atlético Madrid have a youth set up full time in the south of the Island. You cannot blame those clubs for their initiatives but surely CDT should not let any local talent slip through their net. 100% of the population in the Bilbao region support their local team Athletic Club. They are Basque and proud. Thank god the Tenerife fans have carried this club through the bad times and hopefully now the good times are not too far away. More pride, more identity is needed. Why don’t we have the name of the stadium displayed on the outside of the stadium wall, along with statues of legendary ex-players? Rant over. Another good away win last Sunday for Tenerife with over 100 fans present (out of a 500 crowd, that is great!). Tonight will be tough. Sanse drew at home at the weekend with leaders Real Madrid B and will park a bus in front of their penalty area. As long as it is not the Armada Sur bus I do not mind, as we will need it for our return south!

As I have been unable to find out the details of the squad, I’ve put in a picture of their football pitch. We were considering a picture of a woman with great big tits, or a man with a big lunchbox, but we do have standards!
