ndy Lian, along with his brother Jimmy, are bringing their mastery of seafood and sushi expertise to their newest venture, AJ’s Crab Shack & Bar on Main Street in Nyack. While this venue may be new to the Hudson Valley dining scene, the Lian brothers are not.   Seasoned restaurateurs, Andy and Jimmy are the force behind Suffern-based AJ’s Sushi & Cajun Seafood, wildly popular for its “all you can eat” (yet, high quality) sushi and Cajun boil.

Dining at AJ’s Crab Shack & Bar transcends the mere act of eating a meal—it’s a full-on dining experience. Casting nets and crates reminiscent of crawfishing in the Bayou adorn the walls, and decorative life preservers add a whimsical touch. Sheets of butcher paper drape tables in place of tablecloths in the open concept dining room. A corner chalkboard boasts daily market prices for seafood and specials. Floor-to-ceiling front windows provide a light filled space and a view of

central Nyack’s hustle and bustle. You’ll spot a sleek sushi bar in the rear of the main dining room, offering up trendy hand rolls and top-grade sushi, in addition to raw bar offerings such as Blue Point oysters. But the main attraction of Nyack’s latest dining experience is true Asian-Cajun seafood you won’t find anywhere else. Andy developed his passion for Cajun cooking while spending a summer in Louisiana with a friend and running a restaurant in Savannah, Georgia. The cooking process is key, according to Andy: “Our Cajun is cooked in the wok. The instant flame and high temperature help absorb the seasoning into the shellfish.” Andy dedicated two years to experimenting with his seasoning ratio, in order to get it just right. The combination of different herbs and spices allows for another unique feature of the menu: diners have their choice of seasoning type (Cajun, Lemon Pepper, Garlic Butter or AJ’s mix of all 3), and spice level ranging from non-spicy to extra hot, to please every palate.
