HERO OF THE MONTH DOMINICK POSILLIPO

Dominick Posillipo is truly a man for all seasons, an angel who lives among us, a person who responds to human suffering. One day he was out riding his motorcycle when he saw two people ahead riding a motorcycle spin out and crash into a guardrail. The cyclist suffered grievous injury and his leg was ripped off. Dominick called 911, immediately applied a tourniquet to stem the bleeding, attended to the passenger who suffered a broken ankle and retrieved the leg and put it on ice. The man had to have his leg from the knee down amputated and his passenger is OK. Dominick’s quick action that day saved a life but his life is filled with instances where he comes to the aid of people in need. Dominick just can’t say no. When he was asked to join the Elk’s Club he worked his way up to becoming Past Exalted Ruler. Today Chapter 877 in North Rockland

and Haverstraw has over 1,400 members. He is a renowned Polar Plunger for the last 14 years and his exploits are the stuff of legend. With all his charitable activities, Dominick has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to aid people in need. Let’s recount some of the fundraising this retired General Motors employee has completed for people suffering from cancer, hydro-encephalitis and depression to just name a few serious cases that Dominick has influenced. Sean DePatto passed away from cancer at age 9. He loved baseball. Dominick knew him from the age of 2. He raised thousands of dollars by doing Polar Plunges in the ice-filled Hudson River that he donated to defray the cost of Sean’s care. He raised $25,000 for Brian Haney who was suffering from cancer. He has done the Polar Plunge for Vincent Forzono, who was born with

hydroencephalitis which causes constant headaches and swelling of the brain fluids. Dominick made him so happy when he gave him a ride on his motor-cycle. He has done Polar Plunges for him and tried to raise his spirits by introducing Steve Fugate, a Love Life advocated who has walked across the U.S. five times. Dominick also transports breast milk for Maria Faeri Children’s Hospital to children in need. Roseanne Reemottii, Manager of Operations asked Dominick to help out and he does. Gary Parahus, owner of Gary’s Gutter Services present Dominick with the May 2019 “Hero of the Month Award” at City Line Restaurant in New City during a luncheon. Rivertown and all its readers salute Dominick Posillipo for his humanity and a lifetime of charitable endeavors. R
