WELCOME ADDRESS BY AVM ATAWODI SALIU DURING THE 5TH EDITION OF THE ARISE IGALA LEADERSHIP AWARDS & LECTURES HELD ON SATURDAY, MAY 26, 2018 AT LADI KWALI HALL, SHERATO HOTEL & TOWERS ABUJA
PROTOCOLS: It gives me joy to welcome you all to the 5th edition of the ARISE IGALA Leadership Awards & Lectures. Five uninterrupted event of this magnitude calls for a huge
applause. On this note, I want to commend the Igala spirit imbibed by the organizers.
The organizers and participants of this event represent the broad spectrum of

stakeholders who have strong interest in the socio-economic development of Igala people. Our presence here therefore symbolizes love and deep sense of responsibility towards the very land of our birth. It also shows that we are concerned about the development and prosperity of the land.
What we are seeing here are efforts of individuals who are striving very hard to make sure that we achieve love, peace and unity. You will agree with me that these virtues have become scarce and limited in supply.
The many problem of our dear Igalaland revolves round leadership. Therefore, any effort geared towards positioning the Land for greater development, must be commended. It is gratifying to know that the organizers are young people who have distinguished themselves through entrepreneurial leadership. There is therefore hope for Igalaland. But let me ask, what award should we give to those who give awards to deserving sons and daughters? They may not need awards, but they deserve our support.
Let me ask us at this juncture: as a people,ARISE IGALA-ISSUE 44 15

do we still care about our land? Are we disturbed about the contamination and decimation of Igalaland? What are we doing as individuals to restore the lost glory of the land? Should we continue to perpetually dwell on mundane issues such as party affiliations, religion, when all that matter should be the interest of the Land? Let us pause and ruminate on these issues.
Before I conclude, let us take this message with us to wherever we go. Let us stop the monster that is killing us as a people. Let us stop using daggers and guns against one another. Any political point that does
not move Igalaland from its current state is cheap, egoistic, and at most, self-serving.
Ladies and gentle, as a people, let us come together as one to make Igala great, again. The land has given us enough; it is time to give back to the land.
Again, welcome, and thank you for coming. I wish you all an exciting moment.
