Abstract
Assam is known for its deep rooted craft and culture. Muga Silk rearing craft culture is a traditional outdoor rearing practice adopted by people of Assam (Lakhimpur district). The documentation provides an in-depth knowledge about the traditional communities of makers of the craft and the significance. It provides historical, social and cultural data on the craft including information on the cultural lineage and tradition of the craft. There is an overall information about the pre production processes such as the details about unprocessed materials to be used for the craft along with its availability and problems associated with it. Later information about the production procedure which includes progressive steps as well as the tools and techniques involved and motifs formed are given. Also the significance and notability of different motifs and the product as a whole is talked about. The documentation holds information about the market and marketing channels..
Lastly, the opportunity to study about the rich heritage, evolution and usage of the craft as well as lives and skills of the artisans in Assam was enlightening.
