The Perfect Getaways.

Vacation Spots for all!

My Getaway The calming ocean water, the beautiful clean sand, and the ravishing poolside is where I take relaxation to a whole new level. As soon as I pull up to this modernized beach hotel, I know that my day will be nothing other than perfect. The ocean breeze and the swaying palm trees are more than inviting. The pure air and the scent of chlorine make my body melt. The sky glistens while birds chirp in the background, making it impossible to not smile. The Harbor Beach Marriott Resort and Spa (also known as the Beach Club in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, originally built in 1984) is my home away from home and my place to escape.

“When anxious, uneasy and bad thoughts come, I go to the sea, and the sea drowns them out with its great wide sounds, cleanses me with its noise and imposes a rhythm upon everything in me that is bewildered and confused. Rainer Maria Rilke

W hen I started my new school, Nova Southeastern University School, in the

fifth grade, I became best friends with Jessica. Her family belonged to a beautiful private Beach Club. I was allowed to accompany them there on weekends and I dreamed that one day my own family would join as well. I was ecstatic, when in 2008 my family shared the best news a girl could possibly hear, we were now members. After a long week at school, all I could fantasize about was my weekend relaxing in the sun with my family or playing with my friends in the pool. No matter how old I was, swimming in the deep end through the cleansing, sparkling water sent a rush of tranquility throughout my veins. It is almost as if I was meant to be in the water on a daily basis. Exploring the hotel with my friends was always an excitement. As little girls, we would have fun doing the most basic activities. Riding up and down the longest escalator at the hotel and searching along the beach for the prettiest shell we could find, were just some of the adventures we adored. We never let ourselves experience a dull moment.

Being a member at the Beach Club comes with many bonuses.

Everything You Need The spa at the beach club has the most inviting and relaxing qualities. At 16 years old, I was finally able to attend this getaway spot. As soon as you walk in, it is almost as if you are hypnotized by the serene smells and luxurious surroundings inside. Usually, after a long day outside of sunbathing and swimming, I come into the spa to sit in the warm waters of the jacuzzi, simply to let my mind drift. After my enjoyable time in the jacuzzi, I usually lie down on the softest lounge chair you could ever encounter, better than your bed at home. It is impossible not to fall asleep and take the greatest nap of your life. I even put chilled cucumbers on my eyes. The coolness and scent of them take me to a distant place. The music that is played throughout the spa is the epitome of peacefulness. After attending the spa, I now know the true meaning of repose. I cannot imagine a better place to sit back and relax.

Renting cabanas on most holidays brought my family closer together. Our own little area by the beach was the perfect setting for catching up and interacting with one another. My aunts, uncles, and grandparents all come to celebrate the holidays together. Rain or shine, my family would never hesitate to rent a cabana. Even if the sky was gray and muggy we still managed to have a blast. Mother’s Day was my favorite holiday spent there. It was my last Mother’s Day with my Aunt Elaine, who passed away due to ALS. We were extremely blessed to have her there to celebrate with the family. Everyone came, took photographs, ate amazing food, and exchanged gifts. We all went around and read each others sentimental cards to my mom, my grandmother, and my aunt. It was a beautiful day outside and a beautiful day spent with each other. Spending time with my family makes me a more spirited and jubilant person. This Beach Club brought my family closer and taught me what really matters in life. Because of the Beach Club, I now know that family, always, no matter what, comes first.
