Argyll and Bute Constituency There are two MSYP places for the Argyll and Bute Constituency. The candidates are:

Alana MacLachlan

Clare Davis

Fraser Stewart

David McLaughlin

Alana MacLachlan Hi, my name is Alana and I am 14 years old I and go to Oban High. I enjoy sports, sea cadets which I have been doing for 2 years, and attending the north Argyll Youth Forum - I have been a member for nearly 3 years. During this time we have accomplished many things like successfully completing a youth democracy exchange with a Polish youth group. We have also started trying to get a local tax put on alcohol which would go to worthy causes. If elected I will concentrate on improving public transport and making it cheaper.

Alana MacLachlan Manifesto Hello, my name is Alana MacLachlan and I am currently 14 years old. I think I would be a good MSYP because I have many different skills eg. Good listening and I am considerate of everyone else. I am also very rational when thinking things through and am not scared to stand up and stay what I believe or think. I have been involved in my local youth forum for nearly 3 years and in that time we have been involved in community consultations and I have delivered many presentations to the local rotary club, school assemblies and to young people through the young gifted and rural network. I have also recently completed a youth achievement award and I think that these awards should be more well-known so that more young people could have the chance to gain them. Last year, while we were in Poland on a youth democracy exchange, we discovered that they have a tax on alcohol which goes to local youth organisations and we thought that it was a good idea to get a similar tax in Argyll and Bute. Working with North Argyll Youth Forum, we took the idea to the MSYP’s and now the Scottish Youth Parliament has adopted it as a motion and we are now waiting to see what will happen next. I would take this motion forward and hope one day to see it put in place. My other campaign issue is to obtain better and cheaper public transport for young people. I think that public transport is a big issue for young people who live in rural areas. I would campaign for more frequent services as currently bus and train timetables are VERY limited. I also would like to campaign for cheaper fares and discounts for young people – for example through Young Scot. I have found that many discounts, which should be available, are not really offered. If you vote for me I can promise you that your voice will be heard. Please watch my video

Clare Davis Please vote for me and I promise to make a difference. Please read my manifesto for more information on my policies.

Hi, my name is Clare and I attend Oban High School. I want to be a part of the SYP so I can campaign on issues such as encouraging more girls to get involved in what are seen as “boy” subjects such as physics, chemistry and graphics.

I believe I would be a great MSYP as I have a wide variety of skills such as being resourceful, positive and determined. This is shown by my involvement in the community eg having completed over 200 hours of volunteering in the Brownies and my local Cancer Research shop which enabled me to achieve my Saltire Award. This shows I am able to communicate and work with adults and young people am confident and adaptable.

My commitment to my aims is underlined by the fact that I’m currently studying higher Physics, Maths, Chemistry, English and History and hope to be an engineer in Britain where there is shockingly the lowest proportion of female engineers - only a staggering 8.5%.

Fraser Stewart I won’t make any promises I can’t keep but I will try and represent the young people of Argyll and Bute the best I can. Please read my manifesto and watch my video.

David McLaughlin I am David McLaughlin from Rothesay in Argyll and Bute. I am standing for election in the Scottish Youth Parliament because I feel that within Argyll and Bute, young people need a stronger voice within the local council and Scottish Government. I am the chairperson for Bute Youth Forum and I am part of Argyll and Bute Youth Forum, for further information including my aims please look at my manifesto.

Helensburgh and Lomond Constituency Helensburgh and Lomond constituency has one MSYP place, the candidates are:

Katie Burke

Caitlin Logue

Katie Burke My name is Katie Burke; I am sixteen and currently a pupil at Hermitage Academy. I believe that in the last year with my work as the current MSYP for Helensburgh and Lomond, I have served my constituency well, representing them at both a local and national level. I am a very active member of the community and I have the experience and the knowledge to represent my area; I have the drive to achieve it and the voice to get things done. Please read my manifesto for more information.

Caitlin Logue

Three reasons why you should elect me: 

As a politics student who is politically active, I know my way around the system.

I’m approachable, honest and reliable, and will regularly visit schools and can easily be reached on social networks.

I have a sincere interest in making the voice of young people in the area heard.

It is easy for young people to be ignored in a society where politicians care only about getting votes, ignoring anyone who is too young to vote. Don’t let them away with this! “OUR TIME FOR CHANGE”
