Worcester Racecard - Thursday 18th July

Page 1

Our first Country Night here at Worcester Racecourse has arrived!!

The full card kindly sponsored by Event Masters who are returning here today after many years, enjoying our hospitality with guests once again. From all the team here at Worcester Racecourse, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support.

For all you country fans, we very much look forward to The Luke Combs Experience who will be playing after racing. They are the UK’s number one Luke Combs tribute act so grab a drink and head down to the middle of the county enclosure where the band will be playing and will certainly be worth a watch.

With 7 races this evening and plenty of runners; out of the track will be full of action. With the Novice Hurdle race divided, we now have 2 fixed brush qualifiers so this race will be one to watch.

Feaststreat are back with us today, serving up some delicious street food to keep you going this evening. You will find their stand within the enclosure with some great food offers to choose from; loaded fries, gourmet burgers, gyros wraps, pulled pork hotdog, stoned baked pizza, to name a few of the possible choices here today!

We are now half way through our 2024 season, which seems to have flown by and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support.

With the investment into the weighing room, it is a very exciting time to be apart of Worcester Racecourse. We still have plenty of sponsorship opportunities and hospitality available for the remainder or the year, so if this is of interest please do drop us an email at info@worcesterracecourse.co.uk for more details.

Good luck to each and everyone here today. Have a very enjoyable evening with us and hopefully see you again here on the 25th July for our official grand opening of the weighing room!

Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital.

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary

Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.worcester-racecourse.co.uk.

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
