Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

On behalf of everyone at Bath Racecourse, we would like to extend you a very warm welcome to our Country & Western Racenight, the first day of our weekend fixture.
We are set for a wonderful evening of racing with an ultra-competitive card here at Bath. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our Owners and Trainers who have chosen to run their horses here at Bath throughout the season. Your continued support is greatly appreciated, and we wish you an enjoyable time here with us. On behalf of everyone at Bath Racecourse, we wish you luck both at today’s meeting in addition to all future fixtures, and we hope to welcome you back to Bath soon.
Following racing we have a performance on the Final Furlong lawn from Katy Ellis as Taylor Swift. Katy is the leading Taylor Swift cover artist, and I am sure will put on a fantastic show for all you Swifties out there. We have a host of other things going on across the racecourse with country musician Tom Hodge playing an acoustic set at the start of the day and Line Dancing on our stage following the fifth & sixth races. Get yourself down there to get your dancing boots on before the music. In addition, we have a Rodeo Bull and Tin Can Alley so we hope that you will be momentarily transferred over to wild west for the evening!
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome today’s sponsors, Signs Express, KG Flooring, the EBF & DragonBet. I would like to thank them for their generosity and wish them an enjoyable evening with ourselves.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, we return with the finals of our Bath Summer Series Sprint and Stayers Finals. The highlights of tomorrow’s racing will be the finals of our Bath Summer Series, which will see the Sprint & Stayers finals each being ran for £30,000. Horses in tomorrow’s final have been running in qualifying races for these finals since June with 8 qualifying races being ran for each final and points being allocated for placings within these races and also bonus points being awarded for horses who have ran in 3 or more qualifiers. Tickets for tomorrow can still be purchased on our website so head to www.bath-racecourse.co.uk to guarantee your place with ourselves tomorrow if you haven’t done so already!
As we move into the off season, we see our ever-popular fireworks night return on Friday 1st November and a host of Christmas party nights in December Both are fantastic opportunities to enjoy evenings with us with either your family or work colleagues so please do visit the website to book in.
I hope you all have an enjoyable evening here at Bath, best of luck and we hope to welcome you back to another fixture before the end of the season.

We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.bath-racecourse.co.uk.

PLAY SMARTER
Aidan O’Brien typically holds a strong hand as he bids for a seventh success in the oldest Classic, while Ralph Beckett tries to win this with a filly once again, but SUNWAY looks the value call. His close second in the Irish Derby puts him right up there in terms of form and the longer distance promises to suit The unbeaten Jan Brueghel has the most potential in the field and rates the main threat, though stablemate Illinois is also well in the mix following his narrow Great Voltigeur second.

The addition of cheekpieces brought about improvement in NALA STAR, who did the job well when opening her account in the new headgear at Catterick recently and she is taken to follow up on her nursery debut. Hettie Jack looks pretty solid and could be the one to follow the selection home, with Ellomate, Sabrimento and Chepstow scorer Solar Edge also shortlisted.

The vote goes to ALBUS ANNE, who scored over this C&D last autumn and she is fresher than most on what will be just her third start of the present campaign. The consistent Dappled Light went close at Chepstow recently and is next on the list ahead of Ravenglass. Cases can also be made for Havana Goldrush and Hawajes.
