December 2007

President ’s Message… ARCEA is active. The board was able to meet November 30, 2007. Nominations have been submitted for individuals running for 2008 officers and board members. (see ballot inside and VOTE). Our board meeting was very productive. We are currently handling some updates to the meeting via e-mail. We will be purchasing new ARCEA buttons to wear and promote our division. Jewelry will be on sale at Staff Conference. See Angeila Scarborough or an ARCEA member. We should be wearing our new ARCEA buttons. We are encouraging each office to get with staff that are not members and ask them to join ARA/ARCEA in 2008. The more members we have, the more we can do as a division. I have enjoyed serving as your president, and wish everyone Happy Holidays and a wonderful year in 2008. I am an ARCEA advocate now more than ever! Cathie Arnold ARCEA President

ARCEA continues to sell Braille jewelry by Ligon Designs. Leslie Ligon operates her business At First Sight in Denton, Texas. Items for sale include 18” and 22” necklaces in silver plate or leather with a heart shaped charm with the word LOVE in Braille on one side and in script on the reverse side of the heart. We also have bracelets in leather or silver plate, and key chains with similar charms. These items all sell for $20.00. We have silver plate Braille alphabet bracelets for sale for $35.00. Each slide on the bracelet has a Braille letter, with the printed letter on the reverse side of the slide. Contact any ARCEA board member if you are interested in purchasing an item. They will be wearing buttons with the ARCEA logo.

CRCC Update‌..NOVEMBER 15th IS THE FINAL APPLICATION DEADLINE DATE FOR THE LAST PAPER-AND-PENCIL CRC EXAM!! The April 26, 2008 certification exam (November 15, 2007 application deadline) will be the last paper-and-pencil administration. Those who wish to take the CRC exam in paper-and-pencil format must apply by the November 15, 2007 application deadline. Visit CRCC's website at www.crccertification.com to access the CRC Certification Guide and Application.

All future exams will be administered in electronic format...CRCC is partnering with Prometric to deliver the certification examinations electronically starting with the fall 2008 examination cycle. There are many benefits to computer-based testing, including: *More flexibility in site locations. Only 65 exam sites have been available whereas there will be over 300 locations nationwide beginning fall 2008. *More opportunities to apply. There will be three opportunities annually to apply and sit for the exam. *More flexibility in choosing when to take the exam. Rather than being required to take the exam on a particular date and time, examinees will have an array of options over the course of an eight-day window. *Shorter exam. Prometric has demonstrated that the exam can be shortened without sacrificing examination reliability and validity. The current 6hour exam will be reduced to 3 hours. *Faster results. Rather than waiting two months for scores, results will be available approximately three weeks following the exam. Streamlining the application process...With the ability to offer exams three times per year, CRCC will also streamline the application process. The new application (available in February 2008) will contain all forms required for certification allowing applicants to submit a complete application package at the time they apply. Also, rather than requiring a separate application and examination fee, only one fee will be submitted for the entire certification process. A partial refund for those found not eligible to sit for the exam will be provided. This will greatly reduce the steps and challenges applicants have reported in the past in meeting deadlines and obtaining their employment documentation and other verifications. More improvements to the process are anticipated and will be announced in February. If you have questions or need additional information, visit the CRCC website at www.crccertification.com or email us at info@crccertification.com. Feel free to share this information with those who may be interested. CRCC takes pride in continually offering a valid and reliable certification examination and is likewise proud to provide enhanced services to candidates through computer-based testing and a streamlined application process. RCEA News Hello from RCEA! The results of the Election of RCEA Board Members for 2008 is complete and new officers are as follows: President-Elect:

Dr. Nancy Crumpton

Mid-States Regional Representative:

Christine Paul

Southeast Regional Representative:

Lynda Hackney

Western Regional Representative:

Dr. Belen Burkhalter

We send out thanks for the work of Dr. Jane Nichols and Dr. Tresvil Pack for their Board service the past two years. At the last RCEA Board Meeting, 12/5/07, Carl Flowers joined us and I was able to ask him a question that the ARCEA Board had raised re the possibility of having an Associate Membership to NRA at a lower cost. Dr. Flowers indicated that this had been a concern in the past as individuals would join the organization at a reduced cost, when it was not the appropriate category, creating a loss of membership funding. I asked if there could be a requirement of a signature of a Supervising Counselor similar to the Professor signing a Student Membership. He stated he would present this to the NRA Board at their next meeting. If approved, we would have increased membership in RCEA and include the many support staff/assistants involved in the field. I’ll keep you posted on the results of this. Thanks for the proposal. Also, we are excited that Texas has formed an RCEA chapter. Wishing Everyone a Wonderful Holiday!! Nancy L. Crumpton, Ed.D., LPC,CRC,CCM RCEA Board -Southeast Region Representative
