step 1:

With the kite at 45° and with good speed, edge hard and start the back rotation by looking over your front shoulder

step 2:

Pull your legs up and – right before finishing the back rotation – bend one or both of them then take your back hand from the bar to grab the board

step 3:

The head is really important now. You have to invert the rotation and start spinning the opposite way, so turn your head backwards and keep the bar close to your hips

step 4:

Go for the pass now and begin to look down at the water to spot the right place to land

step 5:

Put your front foot back in first, holding the board with your back hand

step 4:

Focus on getting your feet back while you keep rotating and stabilise the board

step 3:

Once you’re facing the wind, release your feet and give it some style!

step 2:

As soon as you leave the water, start rotating forwards and go to grab your board

step 1:

Get plenty of speed and throw the kite vertically to get plenty of height and time

Look out for a section of the wave that is about to close out or fold over. If you aren’t already, unhook and keep your front hand right in the middle of the bar.

step 2:

Dig in an edge so that you you’re lining up to hit the section with your board pretty much vertical.

step 3:

Don’t do anything with the kite – just hit the section with plenty of speed. This is how you get the airtime...

step 4:

Keep plenty of board speed and lift your legs (bending your front leg a bit) to keep in contact with the board.

If, like this day, it’s cross-on then let the wind push your board onto your feet and keep your feet square over the board.

step 6:

As the board starts coming round, kick your back foot to ensure the board starts heading back down...

step 7:

As the board reconnects with the wave, get plenty of weight on your back foot so you can generate some power once you’ve landed.

step 8:

Job done! Hopefully you’re back on your board here (I am in this one – promise!)
