Mid-Range Water-Reducing Admixture for Concrete Product Description

CATEXOL 2000 Ni is a mid-range waterreducing admixture specifically formulated to dramatically enhance the finishability and workability of concrete. CATEXOL 2000 Ni provides normal concrete setting characteristics throughout its recommended dosage range.

Recommendations

CATEXOL 2000 Ni contains no calcium chlorides. CATEXOL 2000 Ni can be used in all types of concrete including plain, reinforced, extruded, precast and prestressed concretes. CATEXOL 2000 Ni is especially effective in concrete containing such pozzolanic materials as fly ash, silica fume and slag.

Dosage

The recommended dosage range for CATEXOL 2000 Ni is 3.0 to 12.0 ounces per 100 lbs. (195 to 780 ml per 100kg) of cementitious material as an ASTM C 494, Type A admixture The recommended dosage range for CATEXOL 2000 Ni is 12.0 to 24.0 ounces per 100 lbs. (780 to 1560 ml per 100kg) of cementitious material as an ASTM C 494, Type G admixture. Normal setting characteristics are maintained at the higher dosages in the recommended Type A dosage range while enhancing the early and ultimate compressive strengths. When using CATEXOL 2000 Ni as a Type G admixture, the introduction of fly ash will enhance the retarding effect on the setting properties. Dosage rates vary depending upon the amount of plasticity and/or water reduction desired. Various concrete materials, slump, ambient air temperature, additions of pozzolanic materials, mixing time, and type and brand of cement will affect dosage rates. It is suggested that trial mixes be conducted in order to determine the required dosage for optimum performance with your concrete components.


Directions For Use

CATEXOL 2000 Ni can be dispensed into any of the concrete materials except cement, slag or fly ash. Preferably, CATEXOL 2000 Ni is dispensed into the water.

Packaging

CATEXOL 2000 Ni is compatible with other Axim admixtures. However, each admixture should be added separately to the mix.

CATEXOL 2000 Ni is supplied in either 55-gallon (200L) drums, 265-gallon (1000L) totes or bulk delivery.

Applicable Standards

A trained Axim representative is available to assist in the preparation of specifications, and the resolution of concrete problems in the field.

CATEXOL 2000 Ni meets or exceeds the requirements of ASTM C 494, Types A and G; and AASHTO M 194, Types A and G.

Storage

CATEXOL 2000 Ni should be kept above -23ºC (-9ºF). If accidentally frozen, its properties can be restored by thawing and thoroughly re-mixing by mild mechanical agitation.

Warranty Axim warrants its products to be free of manufacturing defects and that they will meet Axim’s current published physical properties when applied in accordance with Axim’s directions and tested in accordance with ASTM and Axim standards. Axim makes no warranty or guarantee, express or implied, including warranties of fitness for a particular purpose or merchantability, respecting its products, and Axim shall have no other liability with respect thereto. Any claim regarding product defect must be received in writing within one (1) year from the date of shipment. No claim will be considered without such written notice or after the specified time interval. User shall determine the suitability of the products for the intended use and assume all risks and liability in connection therewith.

SECTION 2. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION This product is a dark brown liquid with no odor. EMERGENCY OVERVIEW WARNING! Potential Oxidizer. Contact of dried product with combustible materials may cause fire. May cause eye and skin irritation. Inhalation of vapors or mists may cause respiratory irritation, coughing, sore throat, shortness of breath and tightness in the chest. Harmful or fatal if swallowed. May cause irritation of the mouth, throat and gastrointestinal tract, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. May cause allergic skin and respiratory reaction (sensitization). May affect the heart, blood, thyroid, and central nervous system. See Section 11 for detailed information. SECTION 3. SECTION 4. FIRST AID MEASURES Eye: Immediately flush eyes with large quantities of water for at least 15 minutes, holding the eyelids apart. Get immediate medical attention. Skin: Remove contaminated clothing. Immediately wash skin thoroughly with soap and water. If irritation develops or persists, get medical attention. Launder clothing before re-use. Discard contaminated shoes. Do not allow product to dry on clothing – may present a fire hazard. Ingestion: DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. If conscious, rinse mouth with water and give one glass of water to drink. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious or convulsing person. Get immediate medical attention. Inhalation: Immediately remove to fresh air. If breathing is difficult, have qualified personnel administer oxygen. If breathing has stopped, administer artificial respiration. SECTION 5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES Extinguishing Media: This product is not combustible in liquid form. Use any media that is appropriate for the surrounding fire. Special Fire Fighting Procedure: Firefighters should wear positive-pressure, self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing. Do not allow run-off from fire fighting to enter drains or water courses. Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: This product is an aqueous solution that will not burn; however, dried product will burn under fire conditions. Anhydrous nitrates are powerful oxidizing agents. Dried residue may cause ignition of flammable or combustible materials. Hazardous Combustion Products: Oxides of carbon, sulfur, nitrogen, and cyanide compounds. SECTION 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES Evacuate spill area and keep unprotected personnel away. Remove all combustible or flammable materials from spill area if it is safe to do so. Wear appropriate protective clothing as described in Section 8. Collect liquid with an inert absorbent and place into container. Do not use combustible absorbents or towels. Report releases as required by local, state, and federal authorities. SECTION 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE Handling: Avoid contact with the eyes, skin and clothing. Avoid breathing vapors or mists. Wear protective clothing and equipment. Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling. Keep away from all flammable or combustible materials such as solvents, oil, paper, cloth rags, etc. Immediately remove and launder contaminated clothing. Do not allow product to dry on clothing – may present a fire hazard. Do not reuse un-approved containers. Empty containers retaining product residues can be hazardous. Follow all MSDS precautions when handling empty containers. Storage: Store in a dry, well-ventilated area away from excessive heat and incompatible materials. Avoid storage on wooden floors. Engineering Controls: General ventilation is normally adequate. For operations where exposure levels are excessive, local exhaust ventilation or other mechanical ventilation may be needed. Respiratory Protection: If exposure levels are excessive or irritation is experienced, a NIOSH approved particulate (dust/mist) respirator (N95 or better filters) may be worn. Selection and use of respiratory equipment must be in accordance with OSHA 1910.134, CSA Standard Z94.4-02 and good industrial hygiene practice. Skin Protection: Wear impervious gloves such as rubber to prevent contact. Eye Protection: Chemical safety goggles are recommended. The additional use of a face shield is recommended if splashing is likely. Other: Wear impervious clothing as needed to prevent contact. A safety shower and eyewash should be available in the immediate work area.

TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION HEALTH HAZARDS: Ingestion: Ingestion may cause irritation of the mouth, throat and gastrointestinal tract, dizziness, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, bloody diarrhea, low blood pressure, convulsions, and collapse. In some cases bacteria in the stomach may convert the nitrate to the more toxic nitrite with symptoms including nausea, dizziness, vertigo, vomiting, collapse, cyanosis, abdominal pain, methemoglobinemia, rapid heart beat, irregular breathing, coma, convulsions, circulatory collapse, and death. Inhalation: Inhalation of vapors or mists may cause respiratory irritation with symptoms of coughing, nose bleeds, sore throat, shortness of breath, and tightness in the chest. Eye: Contact may cause severe irritation with redness, tearing, and pain. Corneal damage is possible. Skin: Contact may cause irritation with redness, itching, and pain. Sensitization: Repeated contact may result in skin and/or respiratory sensitization with symptoms of asthma or skin rash. Chronic: Prolonged or repeated exposure may cause mild gastroenteritis, dermatitis, eczema, headache, mental impairment, thyroid, kidney and liver damage, and anemia. Sodium nitrate has been found to cause adverse reproductive effects and/or birth defects in studies with laboratory animals. Carcinogenicity: None of the components is listed as a carcinogen or suspected carcinogen by IARC, NTP, ACGIH or OSHA. Mutagenicity: Sodium nitrate has tested positive for mutagenicity in some test systems.
