COMMUNITY CENTERS INTERNATIONAL DISTRICT/ CHINATOWN JEFFERSON RAINIER RAINIER BEACH VAN ASSELT

Dear Recreation Enthusiast, Summer is our favorite time of year at Seattle Parks and Recreation. It’s when throngs of Seattleites fill our parks with picnics, pick-up ball games, laughing children, long walks, weddings, lazy days at the beach and so much more. This year as spring and summer come around, we at Seattle Parks have our minds on some serious business: continuing to fund the parks, programs and services that Seattleites know and love. We have spent the past two years planning for a vibrant future of our park system with the development of the Parks Legacy Plan. This is a guiding document that helps us plan for the future of Seattle’s public parklands and facilities. We have developed this with significant input from residents who use our parks, programs and facilities.

We used the document as the basis for a possible park funding measure that may go in front of voters later this year. We have held a series of public meetings to inform the community about the plan and get feedback from residents. Just about the time this brochure goes to print, the Mayor- and Councilappointed Parks Legacy Plan Citizens’ Advisory Committee will be making its final recommendations on the size and type of funding package. The Mayor and Council will take further public input before determining what will go before voters. If you’d like to learn more about Legacy Plan, or the status of the proposed funding ballot measure, please visit our website at www.seattle.gov/parks/legacy/committee.htm. Sincerely, Christopher Williams, Superintendent

Set to music, this shallow water exercise class emphasizes improving range of motion, endurance, and flexibility through low-impact movement. Participants will work on building strength and increasing balance using the resistance of the water. This is a great class for those with arthritis and other joint conditions associated with age or injury. It is also a great class for pregnant women and people trying to manage their weight. All ages are welcome.

SHALLOW WATER EXERCISE

A water exercise class designed to build strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness. It takes advantage of your buoyancy in the water and the resistance the water creates. This is a terrific exercise program regardless of your age or fitness abilities, and it allows you to exercise at your own comfort level.

DEEP WATER EXERCISE

This deep water class uses specially designed buoyancy and resistance equipment that provides a demanding workout for the whole body. Tone and strengthen your muscles without impact on your joints, recovery from an injury, and increase your endurance. Great music keeps you working hard! Deep water comfort required.

SWIMSTRONG FOR FITNESS

This workout is designed for anyone looking for a lap swimmingfocused training program. Our experienced coach supervises interval workouts of 2,000-3,000 yards and offers stroke technique and training tips, as well as aerobic conditioning and speed work. There are different lanes for swimmers of different abilities. This is a great cross training opportunity for cyclists and runners!

Washington State sales tax is also included where applicable. City-Fees and charges are necessary to provide financial support to Seattle Parks and Recreation for the operating costs of programs, facilities and grounds. The revenue generated by these fees constitutes only a portion of funds required for operating and maintaining the Parks system. All fees collected from activities and concessions are used exclusively for the Parks system as these funds are deposited in the Parks and Recreation Fund, not the City General Fund. Swimming pool fees and charges are set by City Council.
