COMMUNITY CENTERS BALLARD BITTER LAKE GREEN LAKE LOYAL HEIGHTS MAGNOLIA

Dear Recreation Enthusiast, Summer is our favorite time of year at Seattle Parks and Recreation. It’s when throngs of Seattleites fill our parks with picnics, pick-up ball games, laughing children, long walks, weddings, lazy days at the beach and so much more. This year as spring and summer come around, we at Seattle Parks have our minds on some serious business: continuing to fund the parks, programs and services that Seattleites know and love. We have spent the past two years planning for a vibrant future of our park system with the development of the Parks Legacy Plan. This is a guiding document that helps us plan for the future of Seattle’s public parklands and facilities. We have developed this with significant input from residents who use our parks, programs and facilities. We used the document as the basis for a possible park funding

measure that may go in front of voters later this year. We have held a series of public meetings to inform the community about the plan and get feedback from residents. Just about the time this brochure goes to print, the Mayor- and Councilappointed Parks Legacy Plan Citizens’ Advisory Committee will be making its final recommendations on the size and type of funding package. The Mayor and Council will take further public input before determining what will go before voters. If you’d like to learn more about Legacy Plan, or the status of the proposed funding ballot measure, please visit our website at www.seattle.gov/parks/legacy/committee.htm. Sincerely, Christopher Williams, Superintendent

NEW SUMMER CAMP INFORMATION!

Full payment for both programs is required. Siblings registered for the SAME week of Preschool Camps are eligible for a $2/day discount. NEW TRANSFER POLICY:

Families may transfer their child from one camp to another camp at the same facility without charge if space exists and if the request is received SEVEN (7) DAYS prior to the start of the camps. WE HOPE THESE NEW POLICIES MAKE YOUR SUMMER CAMP EXPERIENCE MORE CONVENIENT!

REGISTER MARCH 11! Seattle Parks and Recreation is pleased to offer several options to register for programs and activities. Please see the options below. Most community centers hours of operation have been reduced in the 2013/14 budget process. Our staff will do their best to register you as quickly as possible, but we ask for your patience and understanding if we are not able to respond as quickly as you may expect from past experience. We have limited staff which may affect our response time. We highly encourage you to register for programs online when possible and available. Thank you for your continued support of Seattle Parks and Recreation.

SECOND CHOICE

Call your local recreation center during our reduced hours of operation at the phone number listed at: seattle.gov/parks/ centers.asp. Any staff may assist you with registration during their operating hours listed on their home page linked from the above web address.

Age 2 This fun class provides children an opportunity to socialize with other children through play, music, movement, art, and exploration. Parents should provide a small snack for their child each day. Children should be practicing their potty skills regularly. If 2 year-olds are in diapers/pull-ups, no staff or volunteer can change diaper. Only the parents of the child or a person authorized on the E-13 can do this. This program is a drop-off program and not a coop. Parents can use this time to go grocery shopping, clean the house, or meet a friend for coffee. We just ask that parents stay local in case a diaper needs changing. No class 4/18 and 5/26. Fees and charges ARC-Our Advisory Council provides the programs and activities listed in this brochure under an agreement with Seattle Parks and Recreation. Fees are used to offset the cost of providing the programs. Program charges include a user fee paid to Seattle Parks and Recreation to defray operating costs. Washington State sales tax is also included where applicable. City-Fees and charges are necessary to provide financial support to Seattle Parks and Recreation for the operating costs of programs, facilities and grounds. The revenue generated by these fees constitutes only a portion of funds required for operating and maintaining the Parks system. All fees collected from activities and concessions are used exclusively for the Parks system as these funds are deposited in the Parks and Recreation Fund, not the City General Fund. Swimming pool fees and charges are set by City Council. Confirmations Sorry, we cannot confirm class registration by mail or phone, but we will notify you by phone if your class is postponed or cancelled. Refunds Refunds: It is the policy of Seattle Parks and Recreation and the Associated Recreation Council that: -Anyone who registers for a class, camp, and special event or program that is cancelled for any reason by Parks and Recreation or the Advisory Council will receive a full refund. -Anyone who registers for a day camp, trip, overnight camp, special event, or facility rental, and who requests a refund 14 days or more before its start (or before the second session of a class), may receive a refund, minus a service charge of $5 or 10% of the class fee (whichever is greater). -Anyone who registers for a day camp, trip, overnight camp, special event, or facility rental, and who withdraws from the activity fewer than 14 days before its start (or after the second session of a class), will receive no refund. -A transfer from one class to another is permitted without cost if done on the same business day as the original registration, and is subject to space availability. -No fee is charged for a transfer initiated by Seattle Parks and Recreation staff when done to correct an error in registration or allow for a better recreation opportunity. For full details of the Department’s Refund Policy, please see Policy Number 060-P 7.16. The policy has changed but is not yet available at print time. Please check with your recreation center staff for details regarding the changes.

Pool Personal Lesson Refund/Transfer Policy A participant may be issued a refund if he/she drops a lesson, and notifies the program coordinator, 14 days prior to the scheduled date. A service charge of $5 or 10% of the fee, whichever is greater, will be retained by the facility. If a participant drops a personal lesson with less than 14 days notice, no refund will be given. Transfers will be accepted for personal lessons with at least 48 hours' notice. Any open dates or times may be considered. No transfers will be accepted with less than 48 hours notice. Group Lesson Refund Policy When the withdraw occurs before the second lesson, the session will be pro-rated and a withdraw fee will be assessed. The withdraw fee will be 10% or$5, whichever is greater. Class cancellations To cover the cost of providing a program, we need a specific number of participants. If too few people sign up for a class, we must cancel it. We’ll notify you (at the latest) one or two days before the class start date. When possible, we will postpone a cancelled class for a week to allow for more enrollments; if the class minimum is not met by then, we will have to cancel it. Waiting lists We will create waiting lists for all filled classes. Please be sure to sign up if you are interested in a class that is full, because class openings often become available. If demand is high, we will try to form another class. Please contact us for space availability. Scholarships Seattle Parks and Recreation wants to ensure that our activities, classes and sports are available to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay. To apply for a scholarship, please talk to a member of our staff. For sign language interpretation, auxiliary aids or other accommodations, please call (206) 615-0140 or TDD (206) 684-4950. Please allow 10 working days’ advance notice.
