SITE ANALYSIS 01

SUN PATH

VIEWS FROM SITE

The building is located on the corner of McKinley Parkway, which traverses Bonifacio Global City from Makati to C5, and 8th Avenue, which connects the SITE American Cemetery to Kalayaan Avenue. The site was selected for its adjacency to the Arts Building and sculpture park on Federacion Drive; high visibility from view corridors; access to WIND PATTERN THROUGH SITE major transportation and pedestrian routes; proximity to the commercial areas of BGC, its residential communities, and to the American SITE Cemetery. The site is strategically located within the BGC and it is posiitioned to become a major landmark and hub.

SUSTAINABLE STRATEGIES 03 The C*MAD is designed with sustainable strategies for tropical climates.

SUSTAINABLE AND MODULAR MATERIALS For the exterior of the building, modular graphic concrete panels in black, gray, and white will be used for the different programmatic areas to distinguish them from one another. They will be etched with artwork displayed in the museum. If the museum expands, the same material will be easy to install on the additional spaces. The cladding will be composed of ceramic fritted glazing and bamboo composite louvers. On the interior, bamboo veneers, bamboo flooring, basalt flooring, local marbles, and low VOC paints will be used.

NATURAL VENTILATION The siting and form of the building is influenced by the flow of wind through the site. The stacked and porous form of the building minimizes the electrical consumption of the building by maximizing natural ventilation between galleries and spaces. The studies of each floor, done in VASARI, validate the design intent. WIND FLOW WIND FLOW GROUND AND 2ND FLOOR THIRD FLOOR

NATURAL DAYLIGHTING After studying the sun path over the site, skylights oriented towards the north and south were placed above the gallery walls to maximize daylight in the museum,. The porous form also allowed for daylight to penetrate the lower levels as well as the balconies and walkways. At the same time, the building form, minimizes solar heat gain and east-west sun exposure.

STREET LEVEL PARK, ROOF GARDEN, GREEN WALLS, AND RAINWATER HARVESTING The roof garden are used for rainwater harvesting, reduction of heat load, park space as well as urban farming. The landscaped areas insulate heat from the sun and enhance the overall comfort level of the building and provides maximum greenery for the users and the community. The collected rainwater is used to irrigate the landscaped areas.

PHOTOVOLTAICS & EFFICIENT LIGHTING Solar Panels will be placed on the roof of the 7th and 12th floors. This renewable energy source will help in the reduction of carbon emissions. LED and efficient florescents will help also reduce energy consumed by the building.

Photovoltaic Cell

Bamboo Composite Louvers

SUNSHADING In the galleries and spaces that are not displaying UV sensitive artwork, there is full glazing. These spaces are clad with angled bamboo composite louvers whose pattern is generated from the sun path over the site. The glazing is finished with a ceramic fritting. These solutions enable light transmission into the spaces but also reduce energy and lighting loads.
