Our Mission
As Alumni of The School of Architecture founded by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1932, the Collective sets out to empower its members to be leaders/ mentors, through professional and organizational resources to support and enhance the unique student experience at TSOA.
TSOA Collective will aim to serve its facets of community through:
In service to TSOA:
• Generate and maintain a TSOA Alumni contact database.
• Collect student thesis projects to promote and share to educate the general public.
• Pursue joint fundraising opportunities with TSOA.
• Support the TSOA school board.
In service to Students:
• Be available for mentorship and advising sessions for students’ thesis projects.
• Archive and share shelter thesis documents for reference use.
• Pursue scholarships for TSOA students and/or shelter thesis.
• Connect students with Alumni to encourage institutional knowledge.
In service to Alumni:
• Promote and document alumni thesis projects.
• Promote and document active professional work and accolades.
• Offer mentorship opportunities and resources for Architect licensure candidates.
• Help foster a relationship with established alumni and recent alumni for job placement help.

As alumni and friends of the School of Architecture, our passions run deep, developing into an unrelenting will to promote [an] experiential Architecture, by fostering the learning by doing pedagogy FLLW developed at Taliesin and Taliesin West. We aspire to establish a legacy beyond academia to support the School’s continued evolutions, broaden experiences, and extend the discourse of Architecture into perpetuity.
Experimentation
Forget the gray-haired social clubs and unsolicited career advice, that is not the Alumni of TSOA. Our inspiration is to continue the unbounded dialogue of designers and processes grounded by curiosity, iteration, and reflection. We are a progressive group of TSOA supporters invested in a constant evolution of how we engage the school, the students, our communities, and our work.
Engagement
Our measure of success is our ability to build a network between academics and practice. The Collective aims to foster a sphere of experimental designers, to expand the methods cultivated by the school, and to share our thinking with our communities. Our goal is to support both the School and students in preparing for the rigorous demands of a career in architecture
TSOA Collective is maintaining its members limited to NAAB Degree Holding Graduates and Teaching Fellows that attended TSOA/FLWSOA.
“NAAB - Degree Holding Graduate”
An individual who attended the TSOA/FLWSOA and holds a Master or B.S. Arch degree from TSOA/FLWSOA. These are board-eligible members.
“Teaching Fellow”
An individual who has lived on campus as an adjunct faculty member and actively participated with students in their tenure. These individuals have subcommittee voting rights and are not board-eligible.
“Immersion/Previous students”:
These individuals attended the School as students (non-degree holding), apprentices, or (8-week) immersion students. These individuals have subcommittee voting rights and are not board-eligible.
“Affiliated Members”:
“Affiliated Members” may be individuals that the TSOA community has worked with. These individuals are limited to subcommittee chair assignments that have no rights to determine direct control of the TSOA Collective organization’s budget/policy.
“Current Student”
This is an individual who is currently a student at TSOA. These individuals are limited to subcommittee chair assignments that have no rights to determine direct control of the TSOA Collective organization’s budget/policy.

Officers & Duties
Carl Kohut - Chair
The chair shall convene regularly scheduled board meetings, set the meeting agenda, shall preside or arrange for other members to preside at each meeting in the following order: vice-chair, secretary, treasurer.
Jose Amaya Rosales - Vice Chair
The vice-chair shall develop fundraising plans and chair committees on special subjects as designated by the board.
Archie Kinney - Secretary
The secretary shall be responsible for keeping records of board actions, including overseeing taking minutes at all board meetings, sending out meeting announcements, distributing copies of minutes and the agenda to each board member, and ensuring that corporate records are maintained.
Michael Simmons - Treasurer
The treasurer shall make a report at each board meeting. The treasurer shall chair the finance committee, prepare the budget, implement fundraising plans, and make financial information available to board members and the public.
Board of Directors
The board shall have up to 10, but not fewer than 4 members. The board receives no compensation from TSOA Alumni, other than expense approved by TSOA Alumni Board.
Terms
All board members shall serve two-year terms but are eligible for re-election for up to five consecutive terms.
Meetings
The board shall meet at least quarterly during a fiscal year, at an agreed upon time and place. An official board meeting requires that each board member have written notice at least two days in advance. One board meeting each fiscal year shall be attended by an in-person quorum.
Board Elections
During the last quarter of each fiscal year of the corporation, the board of directors shall elect Directors to replace those whose terms will expire at the end of the fiscal year. This election shall take place during a regular meeting of the directors, called in accordance with the provisions of these bylaws.
Committee Formation
The board may create committees as needed, such as fundraising, public relations, data collection, etc. The board Chair appoints all committee chairs.
