F A C A D E T R E AT M E N T - S O U T H W E S T C O R N E R The adjacent image illustrates the strategy that we feel works particularly well in disguising the box-like nature of the underlying building geometry beneath (which is dictated by the existing structural grid). It is easily adaptable should any further changes need to be made, and creates a dynamic facade that breaks up the overall horizontality of the building.

These images look at the different options tested from a perspective view. Each one shows how the addition of this subtle texturing can create a more dynamic overall form, but we do not feel that these were quite as successful as our preferred facade texture pattern. In each case we have looked to integrate this texture to the lower edge of the concrete spandrel to consider weathering effects.

We propose four green ledges (or terraces) which will wrap the building in lush vegetation. Plantings will vary in height with smaller low level ground coverings and shrubs on the northern faรงade and larger more elaborate plantings to the south. This will provide a unique opportunity to introduce natural elements to all levels of the building These green lines split the building horizontally and helps to break down the strong verticality of the building that is generated by its internal programmatic arrangements. BUILDING PARAPET _ We have tested a few different ways to deal with the parapet condition including increasing the heights of the LV 04 modules as per the left hand render. Our current thinking is that if possible and acceptable to the MoH the best solution is a simple balustrade set well back from the buildings perimeter as per the right hand render.

De-couples the west side service road from LV 01 ~+16m levels. This make the service ramping significantly simpler.

Greater segregation of visitor and servicing traffic

Allows for at grade access from the western service road to the future western development site.

Western service road shifts east increasing the size of the future western development site

Cons’ ·

Right hand turn entry for A+E

·

Right hand turn entry for Visitor drop-offs and potential traffic cross overs between cars dropping of and cars going directly to LV LG parking areas.

·

Potential for traffic congestion on the drop off road as when Phase 02 is constructed both phases will have to utilise the loop.

·

The loop road will require a very tight turning radius to avoid the road clashing with the currently proposed Phase 02 building footprint.

The reduction in the slab extents as a result of disconnecting the relationship between the walkway and the slab of the level above allows the concrete spandrels to undulate and provide this protection.

We propose to recreate the alternating vertically tilting hexacon geometry by placing fins at the edge of the hexacon module of the same depth as the tender design glass face. In the revised scheme the glass the fins are palced over remain flat. The diagram above shows the arrangement for following option 1 and 2.

In the tender design the facade glazing consists of sets of alternating tilted glazing. These hexagons are then combined together and vertically offset, creating a spiral that moves up the tower. This tilting geometry as well as creating a complex framing system requires a non repeditative stepping out of the concrete profile (see below) which with our proposed options will try aim to avoid
