Ship Shape Construction Homebuilding & Renovating 2014 Winner The annual Daily Telegraph Homebuilding & Renovating Awards were announced in November 2014 and ‘Uphill House’, the project designed by Robert Dye Architects and completed by Ship Shape Construction won the top honour of best Residential Design 2014. The property features a series of split-level floors following the natural gradient of the hillside and meeting the ground at different levels. The central staircase rises through a naturally bright central core, past the bedroom level and finishing at the master bedroom suite. This is situated at the original roof level and allows dramatic views from Hampstead over the rooftops of London.

Colorful Renovation with HAVER Architectural Mesh The colorful, attention-grabbing new façade planned for the University of Florida Health Shands Children’s Hospital is courtesy of a new painted, architectural mesh introduced by HAVER & BOECKER.

The property is highly eco-friendly, incorporating many sustainable features such as green roofs, rain water harvesting and a HRV (heat recovery ventilation) system to achieve a Code for Sustainable Homes level 4 and an Eco-homes rating of “Very Good”. The dramatic structural design is enhanced by the use of raw and industrial materials: kiln-fired larch cladding, polished concrete, walk on glass and stainless steel. www.shipshapeconstruction.com

Understanding that a hospital can feel ominous to a child, the owners asked the architectural firm, Ponikvar and Associates, to take an approach to the renovation that was child-friendly. Creating colored facades with HAVER Architectural Mesh presents a multitude of unique design options. The interaction of artificial light, daylight, transparency, luminosity and color ensures the stylistic effects of the façade change continually. And, the painted stainless steel mesh is incredibly durable, weather-resistant and virtually maintenance free. www.weavingarchitecture.com

Groundshield is the new generation of insulated raft foundations now available in the UK via AFT Ltd. Incorporating long life EPS, proven over many years here and abroad, the system combines quick and easy to install shuttering with high compressive strength, low lambda, water resistant EPS insulation to provide an outstanding foundation for any building. Due to the unique way in which the footings and slab can be poured in one operation, the time from start through to pour is the quickest way to create a fully insulated floor foundation. In fact the whole operation can take less than 4 -5 days. In addition underfloor heating systems can be installed into the slab saving further time and money on expensive screeds.
