Meet the Teachers Night set for Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. Each year, the parents club sponsors Meet the Teachers Night. The evening starts at 7 p.m. in Barry Gym with a brief presentation. Then parents follow their students' schedules through the evening. Classes are eight minutes long, and the tone sounds at the end, not the beginning, of class. It is not meant to be a parent-teacher conference, so teachers are unable to get into a discussion with parents about a particular child. If desired, parents could make an appointment to talk to the teacher in more detail later. Attendance at Meet the Teachers Night allows parents a chance to learn about each teacher's plans and objectives for the year, to ask questions and to meet the faculty, the administration and new friends. Have your student print out this form and complete it to help you follow his or her schedule. The parents club will serve refreshments throughout the evening. Parents should stop in the cafeteria during their child's study hall and after "classes" have ended. Malinda Baer recognized as National Merit Semifinalist Senior Malinda Baer is among nearly 16,000 semifinalists out of 1.5 million seniors from across the nation who have been named semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Students were eligible for the NMSC competition by taking the Preliminary Scholastic Achievement Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Baer scored in the 99th percentile of all who took last year's test. She will continue in the competition for some 8,200 National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $36 million, that will be offered next spring. National Merit Commended Students will be announced in late September. Mr. Milo and Mrs. Clark record album to benefit Balkans trip A trip to Kosovo is being planned for the 2014 Easter break. Students making the trip will meet and work with organizations that focus on tolerance, social justice and human rights in the Balkans region and will document their experience. To raise extra funds for the trip, Mr. Greg Milo and Mrs. Hannah Clark (aka DJ Minks) have written and recorded an album, with proceeds going toward the Kosovo trip. They formed the duo 8 Eyes and came up with "Blingin' Ohio Beauty," which can now be purchased on iTunes for $9.99. Mr. Micah Kraus, who is also working on the Kosovo trip, designed the album artwork, which can be seen in its entirety in the digital booklet that comes with the album.
