and ‘walls’ of the outer shell create spatial boundary, but also act as a sun shade and wind and rain break. The extreme environmental conditions of Busan’s hot summer days and monsoon rains are mediated to create a comfortable, protected urban space all year long.
usually a basement becomes an architectural pedestal. The plinth houses support functions such as parking, delivery, staging, storage, and technical rooms. It is connected to the interior functions of the mountain but also to roadway infrastructure at ground level.

Program | Focus on all elements of the program now and how you group and make important relationships. Begin to make masses and insert them into your developing massing strategies. Remember to use your concepts to help drive your decision making. Form is not generated randomly, but rather from ideas and concepts. Macro and Micro context, and environment are also important things to consider when developing spatial ideas. Program Step 2 Configure the program into the massing that you have been developing. Focus on good strategies for how you locate program within the massing. If you begin to see that your massing is to large for the amount of program then you need to accommodate or re-configure the massing, but also consider how parts of the massing can start to become potential extensions of the facade or roof to create a shading device for public space, or create landscape sections. It will help to produce sectional sketches and plan sketches when solving spatial issues. Ultimately you will want to adapt the program to the digital massing.
Program Diagrams- 3D and 2D drawings Print -
8.5x11 color sheets
Assigned - Wed 8th Due - Fri 10th Precedent Print 8.5x11 or 11x17 COLOR sheets, of all information gathered. Assigned - Wed 8th Check - Fri 10th All work to date will be due on Monday the 20th.
It is important that you have multiple iterations. An iterative process is required, and you will be REQUIRED to show multiple solutions for this step. Precedent | Begin to research, collect images, drawings, diagrams, and other important information about your provided precedent studies. Understand which parts of the precedents are relevant to your developing conceptual language. Analysis through imagesExtract material information, skin geometries, formal moves made to the mass, structural details, patterns, and conceptual relationship to your own concepts. Diagrams- construct a series of simple diagrams from the above geometry which will aid and further develop your own diagramming sequence. Extract - Begin to understand the layers of these buildings and start to adapt and change the layers into your own ideas. For example you study their perforation geometry then begin to explore your own perforation strategies.

Take note in this diagram the incorporation of environmental factors and how the form and design of the building responds to sun and wind over the course of the day. Notice other layers in the diagram such as types of circulation labeled, and other various notations throughout the drawing. This idea that gram
diagram is rich with information and should be where all of you diagrams are getting to. The for our diagrams is that by Monday the 13th you will all have a final well articulated diagram, considers context, environment, mass strategies, skin strategies, structure strategies, and prostrategies.
