About CHAOS How does one handle a vortex of senses, emotions and memories to capture the essence of chaos in the form of art? Works in “CHAOS� depict this charged word in its various manifestations ranging from monstrous environmental catastrophes; sensory overload caused by over-consumerism and social media; babel of clashing extremist religious, political and jingoistic perspectives; emotions exploding from the chaos of war, displacement and overpopulation; and personal, internalized chaos from abuse or mental illness. Included in this exhibition are works by artists residing in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Texas and Wisconsin.

About Arc Arc Studios & Gallery features ten artist studios, a 1,000 sq. ft. art gallery, two smaller galleries and an art education center, along with the Kearny Street Workshop office, the Studio Fine Artist Network office and VEGA Coffee kiosk. Arc is located at 1246 Folsom Street, between 8th and 9th streets in San Francisco's SOMA neighborhood. Juror’s Statement When approached to jury CHAOS I found myself challenged by the subject. CHAOS is a state in which most of us try to avoid yet inevitably it is part of life—be it in our internal dialog, relationships, the planets, natural or manmade environment. It is Yang of Yin—chaos and order. It is part of the human condition.

Selecting thirty-one works for gallery exhibition from the total submissions took many hours of contemplation.

The guidelines for submission welcomed a broad interpretation of CHAOS. At first, I viewed the works through a lens of pure aesthetics. From there I approached each selection based on execution of concept and medium.

The work in this show pushes the boundaries of CHAOS from the obvious to conceptual.
