T first came to ARC in March this year, having become homeless due to a break up with his previous partner. His behavior and his attitude were very challenging and confrontational, and he struggled to engage with other agencies. He was very argumentative, and just caused problems everywhere and with everyone. However, we managed to work through some of his issues and found a landlady who would take him on. “I have been attending the ARC project since March after becoming homeless due to a break up. I have received a great deal of help from Sheryl [support worker at ARC], who is an amazing mentor, listener and support. If it wasn’t for Sheryl I would probably be banned, and I wouldn’t be in my place I’m in now. It’s all thanks to her.” Since T has been in his new accommodation, he has also been able to find himself with a job and is now very happy and settled.

CONWY FOOD BANK What a difference a few months makes! You may remember that we wrote in the June edition of the newsletter that Conwy Food Bank was very blessed recently to receive an amazingly generous donation from the Conwy Islamic Society: Four large pallets packed with food! The following month, this is what the shelves looked like! Don’t get me wrong, it was only a small section – but it was significant in the time it took to get to that state – not very long at all!

Highest July total ever! Barry, who is the volunteer who prepares the stats for us – and does an amazing job every month – has noticed that last month:

“this is our highest July total ever, the highest 6-month total, and the highest average monthly total.” It’s no surprise, then, that our supplies are low!

Universal Credit? Whilst it’s easy to blame Universal Credit at this time, there are many other factors and to blame one particular benefit may be over-simplifying the matter. Undoubtedly, however, it is having an effect.

What do we need? Currently (August 2018) we need:      

Biscuits & treats tinned meat Fray Bentos pies tins of tuna sugar custard and rice pudding

Keep a look out on our Facebook page – where we regularly post lists or what we need, and for our drop-off points, please visit our website: – where you can follow the links to find an updated list. Thank You for your constant support – without you, we couldn’t continue to feed those in the county of Conwy who cannot afford to buy food for themselves.
