from the news editor Hi seals! A lot has happened this month and I am so excited for what’s to come next month. Stay tuned for more updates! Love, Charisse Liu

good+ foundation january 12th, 2019 | division event

TIMOTHY SUJO, ARCADIA KEY CLUB MEMBER It was my first time volunteering at the Good+ foundation, and I had no idea what to expect. Through various different projects, such as stacking diapers cases on to pallets and sorting various toys for little children, I realized that by helping out, I can make a difference for the families who need these care packages and basic necessities. It was a worthwhile experience and privilege to be able to get the opportunity to contribute and serve the community in a unique way. JARED WONG, D35W SPIRIT TASK COORDINATOR Although it was pouring, I had a great time packaging diapers and sorting through children products with my friends and DLT members.

conclave january 19th, 2019 | region event ROBIN YI, D35W LTG-ELECT It's almost been a month and I still can't believe I made it! Gotta enjoy the calm before the storm. I'm itching to work and already have quite a few ideas, working on some merchandise, apps, and dcms. Stay tuned around March hopefully for DLT applications!! If you have any questions please ask! I don't bite and I'd love to hear what you been thinking about!! Let's make this year awesome! LET'S GET THIS BREAD.

Make sure to say CONGRATS to Robin Yi, our LTG-elect!

pasadena half-marathon january 20th, 2019 | division event

CONNER HUA, ARCADIA KEY CLUB MEMBER Waking up at 5:00am for the second year in the row, although groggy, I was eager to volunteer at the Pasadena Half Marathon again. While my friend and my’s misfortune of going to the wrong location warranted a few chuckles, some walking and an Uber ride later, we had arrived at the volunteering location. Engulfed by invigorating energy resonating from the runners, within minutes, Arcadia Key Club’s energy soon matched that of the runners. The day was filled with laughter and memorable experiences as we handed water to runners, trying our best to navigate the crowded streets.

cards for troops january 23rd, 2019 | club event

GABRIEL CHUNG, ARCADIA KEY HISTORIAN The purpose of the event was so that we could give thanks to all of those who served to protect us in the army. The planning was simple as we bought a few art supplies and just asked the members to write a thank you card to the veterans and we then shipped it to a company that distributes them to the said veterans. KEVIN SONG, ARCADIA KEY CLUB ICC REP For this week’s meeting, we decided to create an event where we could help others and gain volunteer hours while at school! We did this by asking members to create Valentine’s Day cards for U.S soldiers. Members were given paper, markers, and stickers to decorate their cards, which was lit! Overall it was very fun and the cards will be sent to the soldiers very soon!

what is plarn? Plarn is yarn made out of plastic bags.

how do i make it? Lay bag flat and fold it in half lengthwise. Fold bag in half again. Cut folded bag into loops, discarding handles and bottom. Knot loops together to form a single strand. Roll the strand into a ball and crochet or knit as you would with yarn.

spring varsity tournament february 2nd, 2019 | club event

ANDREA ZHANG, ARCADIA KEY PUBLICITY COMMISSIONER The Spring Varsity speech and debate tournament was an event to remember. It was raining the whole time we were there! But it was super fun to just hang out with friends and help with tab room. I learned a lot about Speech and Debate! Thank you to the Arcadia Speech and Debate Team and Ms. Novak for this wonderful opportunity!
