I

n just its fourth year, the Arabian Western Pleasure Association futurity program is going strong and continuing to grow. Again this year over ninety stallions are AWPA nominated. Arabian Horse World is proud to be a major sponsor and supporter from the program’s inception. The positive impact on the market for young Arabian and Half-Arabian western pleasure horses has been huge. There is now a healthy prospect market, and the breeding of Arabian and Half-Arabian western pleasure horses has been stimulated.

Additional prize money will added in 2019. The Arabian Professional and Amateur Horseman Association will contribute $3,000 to be paid $1,000 each to three random horses in the Top Fourteen of the Arabian futurity. The AHA Breeder’s Sweepstakes will pay an additional $5,000 to the breeder of the winner of the Arabian futurity if it is Sweepstakes nominated, and $3,500 to the breeder of the winner of the Half-Arabian futurity if it is Sweepstakes nominated. And this year, the Limited Open Bonus will again be offered. The highest placing rider in both the purebred futurity and Half-Arabian futurity that qualifies as a “Limited Open Rider” will win an additional $2,500.

The Arabian Horse World Arabian Western Pleasure Maturity and the Equine Athlete Half-Arabian Maturity for four- and five-year-olds will be held at Canadian Nationals. The Maturity classes for amateurs started last year, and have expanded the AWPA futurity program so that amateurs can also compete for significant prize money.

The AWPA Board continues to refine their program. The large prize money payouts are having a positive impact on the breeding of western pleasure horses and are contributing to greater excitement for owners and exhibitors. In a short period of time, the AWPA futurity program has been a game changer.

I began riding at the age of six and showing class A and regional shows at eight. I was hooked. But life happens, and I left the horse world for several years until my childhood friend and competitor, Joe Reser, became my husband.

Suddenly, horses were back to the center of my life as what was once Joe’s hobby became his career. Together, we are a part of Shamrock Farms, LLC, where we train, breed, and raise Arabian and Half-Arabian horses. Most importantly, I am the mother of two boys, Cole and Grant, who have also caught the horse bug. Arabian horses are both my passion and my business. As such, it is important to me that I not just participate in, but actively help to shape the future of our industry. As a member of

“I am a 32-year veteran of the Columbus Ohio Police Department and have been married to my lovely wife Angela for the past 24 years which makes me the luckiest guy in the world. In my spare time, I am currently a member of the U.S. and Canadian National show commissions, a past Region 14 Director, and the President of the Ohio Half Arabian Horse Association. I believe the Arabian Western Pleasure Association may just be the most important thing I have been involved in for the Arabian horse community. My hope is to encourage people to get involved in breeding, showing, and enjoying quality Arabian and Half-Arabian western pleasure horses again. ‘If it can’t be done

“I received the best gift ever when my parents gave me horseback riding lessons for my 10th birthday and was introduced to Arabian horse shows by my first riding instructor. I love the horses, people, and camaraderie, and I cannot imagine a life without being a part of the amazing Arabian community. Although I’ve always admired the beauty, elegance, and strength of the western pleasure horse, I spent most of my youth and early adulthood showing in English, country English and show hack.

When I was in my early 30s, my parents purchased an untrained three-year-old colt that, once under saddle, showed a surprising talent for loping. That horse was Kornwall, and I was finally able to show a western pleasure horse. I have been hooked ever since.

“I have been training Arabian horses professionally for 37 years. My wife Caralyn Schroter and I own and successfully operate RBC Show Horses in Smithfield, North Carolina. I have been a member of the Arabian Horse Association since 1974.

I have been a clinician for 37 years for numerous Arabian Horse Clubs around the United States and Canada. I currently serve on the APAHA board of directors and the Arabian Horse Celebration Show board of directors. I am a North Carolina Representative for the Region 12 Arabian Horse Association. I

Dana developed an early passion for Arabian horses that also fueled her career choice as a veterinary technician. Dana resides in Alberta, Canada, where she conditions and prepares her own Arabian horses to compete as an amateur in both hunter and western, to the national level. In recent years, Dana moved horses to the U.S. for training, showing, and essentially to expand her knowledge and involvement in the Arabian horse industry. Dana is an integral part of the breeding program for Salisbury Farms, in her hometown of Sherwood Park, and she takes pride in her accomplishments with many of the horses bred on the farm. Dana’s passion for Arabian horses is evident in her dedication to the breed and the Arabian horse industry.

AWPA Innovations, Rules & Regulations BONUS PAYBACK PROGRAM 50% of the $1,000 Stallion Nominations Are Used for Bonus Payback — Adjusted Annually.

Auction Foals are eligible for Bonus Payback Prize Money!

Auction foals are the result of breedings purchased in the annual AWPA Stallion Service Auction. Also, every stallion owner may designate an in-utero auction foal for every breeding that they donated to the Stallion Service Auction.

94 stallions nominated in 2019 creates $47,000 additional prize money available in 2024: • 65% for Purebred Futurity payback = $30,550 • 35% for Half-Arabian Futurity payback = $16,450 The added money is split evenly among the Top 14 AWPA Auction foals in the Finals – no matter the placing in the class. For example, if 2nd place and 11th place in the Purebred Futurity are AWPA Auction foals, they will each receive an additional $15,275 in prize money ($30,550 split 2 ways)!

Likewise, if 3 of the 14 finalists in the Half-Arabian Finals are AWPA Auction foals, they will each receive an additional $5,483.33 ($16,450 split 3 ways)!

THE AWPA STALLION SERVICE AUCTION IS OPEN FOR BIDDING MARCH 7-12, 2019!

ENROLLING YOUR STALLION • Stallions may be enrolled annually for the fee of $1,000 by the deadline of December 1st of the year preceding the stallion auction. For example, in order to have a stallion enrolled for the 2020 year, the paperwork and payment must be submitted by December 1, 2019. Nomination forms can be found at arabianwesternpleasure.com.

• Stallion owners must complete the Stallion Nomination Agreement Form & Auction Purchasers Agreement, and provide a breeding contract and photo by the deadline of December 1st of the year preceding the stallion auction. (December 1, 2019, for the nomination year of 2020) • For every three (3) stallions one stallion owner nominates, they will receive a fourth stallion nomination at no charge.

• Stallions who sire the Champions in the 2019 AWPA Purebred or HalfArabian classes will receive a 2020 stallion enrollment at no charge.

• One (1) breeding must be donated to the AWPA Stallion Service Auction. A stallion owner may choose to donate two (2) breedings, one Purebred and one Half-Arabian, for their $1,000 nomination fee.

• The stallion owner agrees to be the purchaser of the auction donated breeding if it does not sell at auction, for the minimum bid of $1,000.

• Stallion owners receive one ‘Auction’ breeding with their nomination.

This breeding can be used on a mare of the stallion owner’s choice or can be sold by the Stallion owner to anyone the stallion owner chooses and for any fee the stallion owner chooses. An in-utero Mare Nomination must be submitted by December 31st with payment of $100.

AUCTION GUIDELINES • Minimum bid for each stallion service is $1,000.

• lf minimum bid is not reached, the stallion owner will be responsible for the $1,000 minimum bid, to be paid to the AWPA. • Payment is due when the purchaser is advised they are the winning bidder.

• Purchaser must complete the AWPA Auction Purchaser Agreement prior to receiving stallion/agent contact information for breeding.

• The stallion owner will be advised when all payment and contracts have been honored by the purchaser so the breeding service can commence.

• Auction will be an online format through The Arabian Horse Times. The auction will be open for bidding March 7-12, 2019.

MARE NOMINATION • In order for foals sired by an AWPA-nominated stallion to be eligible to participate in the Futurity and Maturity classes, they must be nominated in-utero by submitting a Mare Nomination Form.

• Mares must be nominated before the end of the breeding/auction year for a $100 fee. December 31, 2019, for this year. Nomination forms can be found at arabianwesternpleasure.com.

• Any mare that has been bred to an AWPA enrolled stallion can be AW PA 2 0 1 9 > 78 < W O R L D

• The breeding does not have to be purchased in the AWPA Stallion Service Auction.

OFFSPRING NOMINATION • From 2016 through 2020, offspring of that year's AWPA nominated stallion are eligible to compete in the AWPA Futurity & Maturity classes.

• Fourteen (14) horses total will advance to the final.

• The Final will be run as a standard Western Pleasure Junior Horse class. Upon completion of the rail portion, horses will be called to line up head to tail. > Two attendants per horse will be allowed into the arena to assist with removing saddles and pads.

They are allowed to bring a saddle rack, towel, and brush. > Riders are to stand up their horse to be assessed for conformational suitability to Western Pleasure by the judges. > Once the judging panel has completed their examination of a horse, it should be resaddled.

• The AWPA class entry fee is $700.

> Exhibitors will be retired to the paddock after the judges turn in their cards, and then the Top Ten will be called back into the ring in numerical order.

• All other entry and office fees charged by National shows must be paid directly to the show.

CLASS GUIDELINES • Through 2020, AWPA classes are open to Purebred and Half-Arabian horses sired by stallions enrolled in the program for that year.
