summer of 2014, at 8 weeks old, by Da Vinci FM and out of the beautiful El Nabila B daughter *Sashaa LHT. Having sold the family farm that was established in 1980 with a strong emphasis on the Russian Arabian horse, after the passing of both of my parents, I am reminded when visiting Butler Farms how much I miss the ability to look out of a window and see lovely mares and foals strolling through the beautiful pastures, or the babies rearing and playing with one another. During my visit, Ted presented all of the weanling fillies to Frances Butler, Travis Rice and myself, and I immediately put on the best poker face I had to not let anyone know that my heart was beating out of my chest and my palms had started to sweat. A beautiful 10-week-old filly sired by ML Mostly Padron and out of Serenitee CA, by SF Veraz and out of a Falcon BHF daughter, came trotting out, and something came over me that said this filly is going to be a forever joyful love in my life. In February, 2016, at the Scottsdale Show, we debuted Celestina INZ in the very competitive International Yearling Filly class. The stands were packed and the enthusiasm was high. I was again experiencing my “heart jumping out of my chest” moment. I believed in this baby and nothing was going to diminish my appreciation for her character, her spirit and her beauty, no matter the outcome. She won her section with the highest score of 331.5 and then two evenings later, she was named Gold Champion International Yearling Filly by the 5- judge panel who gave her four golds and one silver. They played the Olympic theme when she won, and the crowd—so many I will never meet—were cheering for my girl. It is not all about being at the pinnacle on any given day; it is about the support and the hard work that it takes to realize your dream.

Marion County in Florida is considered a heaven for horses and is the horse capital of the world. Two main reasons for this are: 1.) Limestone is virtually under every single pasture, which causes the grass to be very rich in calcium and ensures strong and dense bones; and 2). An abundance of clear water (98 % purity). Because of Florida’s climate, horses can graze all year round, and there is no need to provide shelter in the barns during the winter. How important are futurity programs, and particularly, the Spotlight Futurity program? Futurity programs are the driving force behind our breeding and showing. We participate in the Spotlight Futurity Program by nominating our stallions and mares, and buying breedings through the auction. This year we sent 15 horses to the Region 12 Championship show, the majority of them participationg in the Spotlight classes. Our total winnings exceeded $16,000. We are very proud of our horses. How do you promote new people into the Arabian horse industry? We invite to the farm everyone who is interested in learning about the Arabian horse. We provide honest and realistic information about horses and the industry, and when it comes to marketing, we try to price our horses affordably and according to their real value. In 2016, what has been your proudest moment with the Arabian horse? Being named the Breeder Of Distinction at the Region 12 Spotlight Futurity for the second year in a row. n
