3 strategies for 3 realities typos, topos, tectonics 900 people are homeless in Barcelona. This project comes from a clear initial will: To study the realization of a housing associated with the work of the Arrels Foundation, a pioneer institution in helping homeless people. Three strategies linked to three realities of this program, environment and structure.


typos: life

The process to endow a person living on the street with a home is as much complex as diverse. There are as many processes as people, and for that reason there are various types of housing in terms of its realization and the users relationship. Over the years different methods have been developed in order to adapt these people to a home: On the one hand, there is the traditional method of reception or the stepped method; And on the other hand housing first, a very successful and brandnew method, which due to its effectiveness, goes directly to the last step of the process, providing independent home for the homeless individual. Consequently, there are three types of housing for these steps: refuge housing, transitional housing and independent housing.

topos: site

To carry out a proper social reintegration it is necessary that people develop an activity during the day. Starting from the activities that take place in the place itself and the opportunities, there are three activities related to housing: tourist or leisure rental, workshops and finally the Arrels Center ‘s activity.

tectonics: technique

The pre-existences are maintained as far as possible, in two of the cases extending them by following its structural system and, in case of vacuum, a new system that leaves little trace on the ground and easily adapts to irregularities of the environment.

Continuity (circulation and activity) is given to the passage at the end of the street Sant MartĂ­ through a concatenation of spaces fed by patios which enlight and direct. Each step corresponds to a way of living, to a typological unit. These are developed within the three structural systems, adapting geometrically to the singularities and possibilities of each one. +4.00m

7.5x7.5 Equipment in La Mina Projects V Jordi Adell January 2016

Embedded in a regular grid of 7.5x7.5m pillars, the multifunctional center is located in La Mina (Barcelona), which consists of an institute, a day center for the elderly and a sports space with a soccer field. All of them are part of the same volume divided internally, which allows to each of its parties relate to the neighborhood through its access, generating thus a permeable ground floor, in which the users are related. The willingness to place the institute’s patio on the upper floor conditions the project and its development, in such a way that the building acquires the same shape in plan on the three upper floors, while on the ground floor and first floor is articulated adapting to the place and its needs.

social project Classroom for technical training in food Projects VII and VIII Ă lvaro Lara January 2017

During my academic exchange at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) I joined a project in which we carried out the analysis, design and construction of a kitchen classroom for a middle school of Pinotepa National, located in Oaxaca, Mexico. The community needed a training room to teach cooking classes, so a place was designed and built, using economic and native materials, such as the concrete block, the palm wood or the reed. The furniture was designed in detail, having everything necessary as a zone to treat food, sink, gas stove and storage. Further, outside, a traditional oven was located for a complete learning of the traditional cuisine of Mexico.
