NEWS REVAMPED SCOTTISH LIDO ATTRACTS RECORD NUMBERS One of Scotland’s last remaining open air swimming pools has attracted a record number of visitors after undergoing a major refurbishment. The Cumnock Lido in Ayrshire features a 25m long pool and for increased efficiency, the depth was reduced from 2.9m to 1.5m in the deep end and from 1.1m to 0.8m in the shallow end. The refurbished lido opened in mid-June and is the only heated freshwater pool north of the border. The population of the town is only around 2,000 yet the new facility welcomed almost 5,000 visitors in August alone. Last year, the pool enjoyed a record year, with 6,000 visiting across the whole five-month season.

PLANS UNVEILED FOR NEW IVYBRIDGE POOL Plans for a multi-million pound investment at Ivybridge Leisure Centre have been announced by Fusion Lifestyle and South Hams District Council and they showcase a much anticipated new six-lane swimming pool with a state-ofthe-art retractable roof. The plans, announced in partnership with South Hams District Council and West Devon Borough Council, marks the start of a three-year programme of proposed works to improve and modernise leisure facilities significantly in the area. The two local authorities put forward £8m of funding, after agreeing a 25-year contract with Fusion last year. The funds will enable Fusion Lifestyle to start the improvement programme and will be paid back over the course of the contract. As well as Ivybridge, sites including Meadowlands Leisure Centre in Tavistock, Dartmouth Leisure Centre, Quayside Leisure Centre in Kingsbridge and Parklands Leisure Centre in Okehampton are all set to see significant improvements too.

Ceramique Internationale Supplies Tiles To New Yorkshire Spa

Tile specialist Ceramique Internationale has completed a prestigious spa project, using its experience in tile design to add the finishing touches to Rudding Park’s new £9.5m spa. Continuing a partnership which spans more than ten years, Ceramique Internationale was selected to provide Rudding Park with new tiles for its pool and changing room areas, workingclosely with contacts at some of Europe’s finest tile manufacturers to provide the highest quality products. After more than a decade of planning and closely overseen by owners Simon and Judi Mackaness, the spa adds to the resort’s already sizable list of luxurious amenities, and incorporates an indoor swimming pool, which utilises natural filtered spring waters from Rudding Park’s 300-acre grounds, a Juniper Log Sauna, a Rasul, extensive Mind and Sense Zones, beauty facilities as well as an aweinspiring Roof Top Spa. The Roof Top Spa is the home to an infinity hydrotherapy infinity pool and a panoramic sauna, which both overlook Rudding Park’s landscaped gardens. The Roof Top Spa also includes two steam rooms, an ice fountain, a snail shower experience and a first-of-a-kind Rooftop Spa Garden. Working to a design brief, Ceramique Internationale’s Specification Sales Manager, David Longbottom, liaised with Italian manufacturer Casalgrande Padana to put forward a selection of tiles, with Rudding Park choosing the Amazzonia in Dragon Grey, to provide striking detail along the edge of the indoor pool. Some of the Amazzonia pieces were made specially in the UK in order to blend with

the pool’s bespoke drainage system. For the inside and surrounds of the hydrotherapy infinity pool and the indoor pool Ceramique Internationale worked with Italian manufacturer, Ragno, to specify its Landscape tile in Sabbia (beige). The tiles used on the pool surround feature a Bocciardato anti-slip surface to enhance the safety of guests, while those used within the pool tanks had a Natural surface to create an overall seamless finish. For the resort’s changing and treatment areas, Casalgrande Padana’s Marte range, in tones of beige and grey, was used extensively – the Marte Grigio Egeo and Botticino tiles on the walls and the Grigio Maggia and Grigio Egeo on the floors. Cameron Fraser, Director of Ceramique Internationale, said: “The Rudding Park Spa is destined to be one of the finest in the country and truly recaptures Harrogate’s spa heritage so we are more than delighted to have been able to play a part in its creation.” Ceramique Internationale Ltd 0113 231 0218 www.tilesandmosaics.co.uk
