NEWS OLYMPIC MEDALLIST OPENS £3M POOL COMPLEX Welsh Olympic medallist Jazz Carlin has opened a new £3m development at a Haven holiday park – Hafan y Môr in Pwllhel, Gwynedd. The swimmer was on hand to open Splash Away Bay officially, which is located at a former Butlins site. To celebrate the launch, Jazz, who won two silver medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics and a gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, cut a ribbon to declare the pool open. A host of dignitaries as well as local schoolchildren also attended the official opening. The £3m investment has given the existing area a full revamp, with the additions of a new lane swimming pool and a toddler zone, along with updates to the existing wave pool, flumes and lazy river. Haven has invested £3m over the winter to redevelop the wet leisure complex fully and the improvements are part of a £5.5m reinvestment in the north Wales holiday park for 2017.

DEVELOPMENT COULD FUND £8M NORFOLK POOL North Norfolk’s biggest swimming and sports centre could be demolished and rebuilt as part of an ambitious project to improve leisure provision in the area. A new hotel and retail development could be built in Sheringham to fund a new state-of-the-art swimming pool in the town. North Norfolk District Council recently revealed this was the preferred option for replacing the ageing Splash Leisure and Fitness Centre, which opened in 1988, but it hadn’t ruled out refurbishing the existing facilities either. The local authority revealed the £8m project could be paid for through a combination of Sport England funding and long term loans plus income from additional development on neighbouring land. 07_SPN_June_17_News_General.indd 7

Waterco At The Forefront Of Commercial Pool Filtration Solutions

Whether it is filtering the Leicester General Hospital’s hydrotherapy pool, a desalinisation system on a cruise ship or keeping the seal population at Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary happy and healthy, Waterco’s pool filtration solutions have long been the preferred choice for commercial operations that demand superior water quality. “Waterco Europe has been synonymous with superior water filtration solutions in the UK and Europe for more than 30 years. Not only do we stock up to 100 commercial filters at any one time – the only commercial manufacturer in the country to do so – but our research and development team is constantly setting new benchmarks in filter durability, versatility and reliability,” said Tony Fisher, Waterco Europe CEO. While known throughout the international pool, spa and water treatment industries for its superior strength and reliability, Waterco’s Micron Commercial Fibreglass Filters now boast two models that take high-pressure pool filtration to a whole new level. The Deep Bed SMD and SMDD models offer enhanced customisation options and the SPDD range incorporates a patented nozzle plate system which promotes uniform water flow when filtering and backwashing. “These filters are manufactured to the highest quality and enable Waterco to offer the commercial swimming pool industry a competitive range of filters, which in turn complements Waterco’s ever-popular Lacron range of LCX and LCP models,” Tony explained. Waterco Europe’s new Micron Deep Bed SMD and SMDD commercial sand filters consist of a fibreglass inner shell that is reinforced with

polyester resin and then over wound with fibreglass filament. They’re available in 2.5 Bar, 4 Bar, 6 Bar, 8 Bar and 10 Bar working pressures in sizes ranging from 1050 (42”) to 2500 (98”). Designed specifically for filter bed depths of 1-metre (SMD) and 1.2-metres (SMDD), Waterco’s new commercial range provides enhanced in-depth filtration and increased dirt capacity, resulting in crystal clear, sparkling clean pool water. The SMD comes with the benefits of quick connect unions while the SMDD’s includes 8 bolt flange bulkheads. Both models are available with both metric and imperial connections. Both models are available with either the patented nozzle plate filter or Waterco’s famous ‘fish tail’ lateral arrangement. Waterco Europe 01795 521 733

Poolview Plus+ A Winner At Elevate Innovation Awards The hotly contested Elevate Innovation Award winners were announced recently on the first day of the UK’s largest cross sector event focused on tackling physical inactivity. The inaugural awards were judged by a specialist panel made up of 20 expert industry professionals and influential fitness bloggers. The judges had the unenviable task of identifying the best products and services designed to get the nation moving, linking to key themes for Elevate – inclusivity, performance, health and wellbeing and business. The five awards categories were assessed by an interactive judging process, with the expert panel walking the floor on the

first day of the show and scoring entries against a set criteria. Plaques were awarded to each of the winners during an evening drinks reception. Amongst the winners were swimming pool safety company Poolview Limited, with their Poolview Plus+ product receiving the prize for Best Facility Innovation. The product is the result of the company’s collaboration with SwimEye™ to produce the world’s first proactive and reactive computer vision system for the detection of possible drowning incidents in swimming pools.
