ith a wide variety of options available for an ever widening range of wet leisure settings, it’s fair to say that the current lighting technologies for water-based environments have played a huge part in transforming the looks of many of today’s installations in both domestic and commercial settings, allowing them to be seen in their best possible light and making them more appealing places to both frequent and spend more leisure time in. As with any kind of solution that features technology at its core, improvements are made on a continual basis and time has definitely not stood still for the options found within the lighting sector. Powerful and efficient LEDs have long been the accepted choice of professionals across a variety of projects and offer a far more sustainable solution, longer service life and perhaps most importantly, they consume significantly less energy to work resulting in reduced bills. All round, they are a much more eco-friendly solution, plus they provide enhanced visual benefits which greatly assists with safety – a fact that is particularly beneficial within the varied commercial settings that are available today. Beyond these improved practical benefits, an increasing number of designers and installers have realised that a mix of cleverly installed lighting can provide dramatic effects for pools, spas and other settings – both internally and externally – enhancing key features, softening walls and linking zones together. What’s more, the technology to control or programme lighting has also come on leaps and bounds, so creating the right ambience has never been simpler. With plenty of options available on the market from a variety of manufacturers, this issue, we take look at some of the illuminating solutions on offer.
CERTIKIN – A LEADING LIGHT IN SWIMMING POOL ILLUMINATION Over the years, Certikin have continued to develop an ever-expanding lighting range which includes the successful PU2 mini LED light, alongside the Certikin PU9 and PU6, some of the most popular and reliable lights in the industry. The company are keen to remain at the forefront of lighting design and deliver products that the industry demand. In addition to the existing stainless steel finish, the PU2 is now available with a black fascia, ideal for pools with a darker finish. Still manufactured in stainless steel, the dark finish is achieved through the application of a hard-wearing, black coating. The range has also been extended further with the addition of a variable white LED. This gives the ability to set a specific white colour temperature, from a warm white of approximately 2900K to a cool white of approximately 5100K. In addition, the lights are dimmable between 100% and 5%. Another addition this year is the PU3 LED range. These large LED push fit lights (177mm diameter for concrete and 199mm for liner pools) are niche-less and like the smaller PU2 range (at 72mm for concrete
and 98mm for liner pools) are available in either the stainless steel or black finish. The PU3 lights deliver approximately 2,150 lumens which is brighter than the equivalent larger PU6 light and means only one light is required for 20m2. For installations of the PU2 lights, Certikin recommend one light per 8m2. Both the PU2 and PU3 lights offer simple installation solutions with a high output and a neat finish. Certikin offer different LED options across both the PU2 and PU3 lights, with both ranges available in either RGBW or white, alongside the new variable white option for the PU2 range. The RGBW and variable white versions are controllable via a smartphone using the free app, giving control over colour, sequences and brightness.
WATER-TEC LIGHTING OPTIONS SUIT A WIDE RANGE OF SETTINGS The latest range of products from Water-Tec – which are available through Fairlocks Pool Products – have been developed with recent environmental issues at the forefront of their design.
