02. A LOOK INTO THE PAST OF WÜRZBURG THE COMPACT SHAPES OF BOTH SIDES OF THE PARK CHANGE IN THE BAHNHOF SQUARE AREA AS THEY GRADUALLY DISSOLVE TO FRAGMANTED PIECES OF THE SAME DESIGN LANGUAGE. THESE FORMS NOW HAVE DIFFERENT FUNCTIONS AS SOME ARE RESERVED FOR PLAIN GRASS AREAS, SOME FOR PLANTING ZONES WITH FLOWER BEDS AND ORNAMETAL GRASSES AND SOME FOR SITTING MOUNDS THAT VARY IN HEIGHT. THE STRONG INFLUENCE OF PLEICHACH FROM THE RIGHT SIDE WAS REFLECTED IN THE PAVEMENT OF THE SQUARE AS WELL AS THE REFERENCED PAVED WATER STRIPES GO THROUGHOUT IT AND GIVE INFORMAL RESIDENTIAL POSSIBILITIES FOR THE USERS. THE COMPACT STRIPES GRADUALLY FALL APART WITHIN THE TRANSITION ZONES OF THE SQUARE GIVING NOTICE THAT THE ENTRANCE TO THE PARK ON BOTH SIDES IS NEAR. THESE ELEMENTS ALSO HAVE POP-UP PARTS THAT BECOME SEATING AREAS WITHIN THE OPEN SPACES OF THE SQUARE. THE SAME DESIGN PRINCIPAL HAS TRENSFORMED THE KEISERPLATZ IN ADDITION. THE FUNCTION OF THE BAHNHOF BUILDING CHANGED AS WELL AS THE RIGHT WING IS NOW RESERVED FOR BIKE PARKING ZONES AND THE LEFT HOSTS DIFFERENT UTILITY SPACES.

Topographie Die Geländetopographie beleibt nahezu erhalten, was sich wegen den Anschlüssen an die Bachböschung und Straßenprofile empfiehlt. Auf aufwendige Geländebewegungen kann somit verzichtet werden.

Thermische Bauphysik Planungsgrundlage soll der Effizienzhaus-Standard sein. Es werden alle unvermeidlichen Wärmebrücken thermisch optimiert ausgelegt (hochwertige Isokorbkonstruktionen, Flankendämmungen etc.). Bei den Fensterflächenanteilen an den Wohnfassaden ist eine 3-fach-Verglasung mit außenliegendem Sonnenschutz erforderlich bzw. empfehlenswert. Auf Grund der mechanischen Lüftungsanlage wäre es denkbar, ggf. nur eine Zweifachverglasung einzusetzen (Komfort/ Wirtschaftlichkeitsabwägung). Den sommerlichen Wärmeschutz gewährleistet die außenliegende Verschattung an allen Fassadenöffnungen.

Baurecht und Abstandsflächen Die Vorgaben bezüglich GFZ, GRZ und Geschoßzahl werden eingehalten, könnten an einigen Stellen bei Bedarf aber auch städtebaulich verträglich geringfügig überschritten werden. Die Abstandsflächen nach außen sind gemäß den Anforderungen LBO eingehalten. Intern sind zu Gunsten der städtebaulichen Gesamtkonstellation und Raumbildung lediglich zwei Abweichungen notwendig, hier beträgt die Abstandsfläche jeweils nur 0,2 h statt 0,4 h.

Feuchteschutz und Grundlüftung Eine Feuchteregulierung und Grundlüftung der Räume kann weitestgehend über eine mechanische Zu- und Abluftanlage gewährleistet werden. Im Bereich der Wohnungen wird nach DIN 1946-6 zumindest eine Abluftanlage (Abluftventilatoren in innenliegenden Bäder und WC’s) zum Feuchteschutz bzw. zur Deckung der Nennlüftung vorgehalten. In den Fassaden können schallgedämmte Nachströmöffnungen Typ Ventomaxx o.ä. integriert werden (passiver Schallschutz).

Brandschutz, Flucht- und Rettungswege, Feuerwehraufstellflächen Die Feuerwehraufstellflächen im Hof sind nachgewiesen. Bis zum 2. OG sind alle Wohnungen direkt mit Handleiter anleiterbar.

Energiekonzept Es kann die primärenergetisch gut bewertete Nahwärme des Blockheizkraftwerkes Eyachbad zur Heizungsversorgung herangezogen werden. Die erforderliche Kühlung kann durch einen hohen Anteil regenerativer Anteile gedeckt werden (z.B. Grundwassernutzung). Gegebenenfalls können PV-Module auf den Dachflächen vorsehen werden.

TO BRING UP PLEICHACH ON THE GROUND LEVEL, A SUSTAINABLE ENERGY APPROACH WITH MOTION SENSITIVE PAVING LINES WAS IMPLEMENTED. AS PEOPLE WALK THROUGH THE SQUARE, THEY STEP ON THE PAVED STRIPES THAT REFERENCE THE PLEICHACH STREAM AND PRODUCE ENERGY THAT MAKES THE STREAM COME UP AND FLOW EFFORTLESSLY THROUGH THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RINGPARK. THIS PROCESS IS A POSITIVE APPROACH THAT ENCOURAGES USERS TO CREATE THEIR OWN ENERGY BY USING THEIR OWN MOVEMENTS IN A PLACE THAT WILL MOST LIKELY HAVE THE BIGGEST FREQUENCY OF PEOPLE AT ONCE - THE MAIN SQUARE.

Wettbewerb „Wohnquartier Stingstraße/ Charlottenstraße“, Balingen

des Gartenjahres. Die Freiraummaterialien sind einfach und robust. Entlang des Etzelbaches führt ein öffentlicher Weg zu der neuen Etzelsbach- Brücke am Ende der Keplerstrasse und verbindet sich im Nordwesten mit der bestehenden Grünverbindung nördlich des Arbeitsamtes. Die privaten Wege der Wohnbebauung sind mit dem öffentlichen Weg verbunden. Die Menschen haben die Möglichkeit, die Stadt- und Naturräume auf kurzen Wegen zu Fuß zu erleben. Entlang der Charlotten- und Stingstrasse erhalten die neuen Gebäude – in Anlehnung an die bestehende Situation – Vorgärten. Auf Stellplatzanlagen wird an diesen Stellen zugunsten des Straßenraumes bewusst verzichtet. Oberirdische Stellflächen für PKW befinden sich stets etwas zurück versetzt im Zusammenhang mit der Bebauung.

THE EXPANSION OF MUNICH

CONTEXT / Main Project I, Master degree, HSWT, Freising PROJECT / Concept for the expansion of the Eastern Munich Metropolitan Area TIMEFRAME / March - July, 2014 CONTRIBUTION / Participation in all phases in a team work with: Yudi Gao (China); Leon Plahuta (Croatia); Masaki Ikeda (Japan)


The city of Munich along with its metropolitan area has been growing during the last decades. Hence, a strategy for the landscape and urban planning is needed. Out of all the surrounding situations, the East transect of Munich is an area with an huge development and economic potential. The main goal of this project was to produce different development scenarios taking into consideration aspects like the open space system connectivity, ecological functions, settlements grow, agricultural production, between other landscape components.

Therefore after a GIS analysis of several landscape components (urban, water, vegetation, agriculture and mobility) different visions were created and after a careful scenario analysis a final concept was proposed with some programmatic details.

This project was part of the 10th International W端rzburg Landscape Architecture Workshop and started with 2 weeks of intensive analysis and work in the city of W端rzburg, and continued afterwards in Freising during 3 months.

In W端rzburg, we discovered specific challenges on two different scales. The first one was considering the upcoming Landesgartenschau 2018 and its connection to the city center and the W端rzburg Main station. The second scale regarding the problematic situation of the Main station square and the northern part of the Ringpark, which both needed to be redesigned according to nowadays needs. Therefore a contemporary interpretation of Ringpark design by Lindahl was performed in order to answer to the present challenges.

THE MAIN ZONES OF THE PARK AND ITS SQUARE ARE DIVIDED INTO TWO MAIN GROUPS: THE ACTIVE ZONES (DARKER) WHICH WILL ATTRACT A LARGER AMOUNT OF USERS AT ONE TIME AND THE PASSIVE ZONES (LIGHTER) WHICH ARE SITUATED IN BETWEEN. THEIR RYTHM OFFERS DYNAMICS IN USAGE AND SPACE PERCEPTION.

WHEN IT COMES TO THE DIVISION OF THE SURFACE, THE OPEN GRASSLANDS AND THE PAVED SURFACES WERE THE TWO ASPECTS THAT DEFINED IT. IN THE MORE HECHTIC ZONES THE AMOUNT OF PAVEMENT INCREASED AND THE OTHER WAY AROUND; THE PARK AREAS ARE COMPLETELY DOMINATED BY THE GREENERY.

TO DEFINE HOW THE PARK IS GOING TO BE USED IN A MORE PRECISE WAY, A DETAILED ZONING MAP WAS MADE. FIVE DIFFERENT AGE GROUPS WERE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION AND BY MERGING THEM, THE SIXTH ZONE WAS DEFINED. THE GROUPS ARE COLOR CODED REGARDING THE USERS THEMSELVES AND THE ACTIVITIES THEY CONDUCT.

WITHIN THE PEDESTRIAN MOBILITY THREE THINGS WERE OBSERVED: THE PATHWAY HIERARCHY (DARK LINE BEING THE MAIN PARK PATHWAY), THE USER DIRECTIONS, THE CONNECTION OF THE PREVIOUSLY DEFINED RESIDENTIAL ZONES AND THE ENTRANCES TO THE PARK.

AS A PERSON NEVER KNOWS WHAT IS BEHIND THE COURTAIN UNLESS ONE OPENS IT, THE SAME PRINCIPAL WAS USED WHILE MANIPULATING THE VOLUME SURFACES OF THE PARK. THE INSPIRATION FOR THE DESIGN OF THE NORTHERN PART OF THE RINGPARK WERE THE DESIGN PRINCIPLES OF LINDAHL. HIS FORMS AND ELEMENTS ARE TRANSFORMED IN A CONTEMPORARY WAY SO THAT THEY FIT TO THE NEEDS OF A MODERN USER. THE DESIGN LANGUAGE THAT CAME AS A RESULT OF THIS INTERPRETATION SERVED AS A BASIS FOR A CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT THAT ENDED UP IN A MASTERPLAN OF THE NORTHERN PART OF THE RINGPARK WITH ITS BAHNHOF SQUARE. THE PRINCIPLES THAT WERE USED AS A GUIDING POINT ARE DIVIDED INTO SEVERAL THEMATIC TOPICS WHICH ALL RELATE TO THE FINAL DESIGN CONCEPT AND DESCRIBE IT IN MORE DETAIL.

THE COMPACT SHAPES OF BOTH SIDES OF THE PARK CHANGE IN THE BAHNHOF SQUARE AREA AS THEY GRADUALLY DISSOLVE TO FRAGMANTED PIECES OF THE SAME DESIGN LANGUAGE. THESE FORMS NOW HAVE DIFFERENT FUNCTIONS AS SOME ARE RESERVED FOR PLAIN GRASS AREAS, SOME FOR PLANTING ZONES WITH FLOWER BEDS AND ORNAMETAL GRASSES AND SOME FOR SITTING MOUNDS THAT VARY IN HEIGHT. THE STRONG INFLUENCE OF PLEICHACH FROM THE RIGHT SIDE WAS REFLECTED IN THE PAVEMENT OF THE SQUARE AS WELL AS THE REFERENCED PAVED WATER STRIPES GO THROUGHOUT IT AND GIVE INFORMAL RESIDENTIAL POSSIBILITIES FOR THE USERS. THE COMPACT STRIPES GRADUALLY FALL APART WITHIN THE TRANSITION ZONES OF THE SQUARE GIVING NOTICE THAT THE ENTRANCE TO THE PARK ON BOTH SIDES IS NEAR. THESE ELEMENTS ALSO HAVE POP-UP PARTS THAT BECOME SEATING AREAS WITHIN THE OPEN SPACES OF THE SQUARE. THE SAME DESIGN PRINCIPAL HAS TRENSFORMED THE KEISERPLATZ IN ADDITION. THE FUNCTION OF THE BAHNHOF BUILDING CHANGED AS WELL AS THE RIGHT WING IS NOW RESERVED FOR BIKE PARKING ZONES AND THE LEFT HOSTS DIFFERENT UTILITY SPACES.

THIS PART OF THE PARK WITH THE CENTRAL POND AND THE STREAM PLEICHACH WHICH IS THE MAIN LEADING COMPONENT THROUGHOUT IT HAS A CLEAR DOMINACE OF WATER FEATURES AND THEREFORE IT WAS CHOSEN AS A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE WATER ELEMENT. BOTH OF THE WATER FEATURES (ONE STILL AND THE OTHER MOVABLE) MAKE THIS PLACE MORE VIBRANT AND ALIVE. THE POND IS EMBALLISHED WITH A SENSORY GARDEN THAT IS FORMED AROUND IT. THE GARDEN HAS MULTIPLE AREAS WITH FLOWER BEDS AND ORNAMENTAL SHRUBS AND GRASSES OF HEIGHER AND LOWER HEIGHT AND BETWEEN THEM INFORMAL WOODEN SEATING AREAS THAT ACT LIKE AN EXTENSION OF THE LINDAHL SHAPE PHILOSOPHY WHICH CAN BE READ IN THE PLANTING ZONES THEMSELVES AS WELL AS IN THE PAVEMENT CHANGES THAT HAPPENED IN THE SURFACE. AS A RESULT, THE GARDEN ALONG THE POND BECAME THE BIGGEST GATHERING POINT AND ORIENTATION SPOT IN THIS PART OF THE PARK. THE GRASS MOUNDS WITH WOODEN BLEACHERS, AND INFORMAL BRIDGE WITH POP-UP STONE SEATING ELEMENTS AND THE WOODEN DECKS ALOND THE PLEICHACH ALSO FOUND THEIR PLACE HERE.

SECTION A-A’ - WATER

THE BRIDGE OVER THE BERLINER PLATZ GIVES THE PEOPLE A CHANCE TO RISE ABOVE THE GROUND LEVEL, BREATHE IN, GET UP IN THE AIR AND SEE THE RINGPARK AND ITS SURROUNDINGS FROM A TOTALLY DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE. THIS NOT ONLY CONNECTS THE MISSING LINK OF THE RINGPARK ITSELF, BUT IT ALSO PROVIDES NEW VIEWPOINTS TO THE URBAN FABRIC AND THE LANDSCAPE ARROUND. HERE USERES CAN CHOOSE BETWEEN THE FAST AND THE SLOW LANE DEPENDING ON THEIR NEEDS AND DESIRES. THE HOLES IN THE BRIDGE WERE MADE TO LET THE EXISTING TREES POP-UP AND FORM A TOTALLY UNIQUE FEELING OF RESIDENTIAL USAGE. INFORMAL SEATING AREAS, PLANTING AREAS AND DIFFERENT ZONAL ELEVATIONS MAKE THIS PALCE EVEN MORE LIVELY AND DYNAMIC.

TO BRING UP PLEICHACH ON THE GROUND LEVEL, A SUSTAINABLE ENERGY APPROACH WITH MOTION SENSITIVE PAVING LINES WAS IMPLEMENTED. AS PEOPLE WALK THROUGH THE SQUARE, THEY STEP ON THE PAVED STRIPES THAT REFERENCE THE PLEICHACH STREAM AND PRODUCE ENERGY THAT MAKES THE STREAM COME UP AND FLOW EFFORTLESSLY THROUGH THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RINGPARK. THIS PROCESS IS A POSITIVE APPROACH THAT ENCOURAGES USERS TO CREATE THEIR OWN ENERGY BY USING THEIR OWN MOVEMENTS IN A PLACE THAT WILL MOST LIKELY HAVE THE BIGGEST FREQUENCY OF PEOPLE AT ONCE - THE MAIN SQUARE.

The winning design concept for the Parkstadt in Cologne by RMP was part of design competition with two phases during 2015. This was a collaborative process through regular meetings where the ideas of the citizens of Cologne were important to develop an overall concept for the open space planning and urban design. The task for the competition emphasized the need to connect the South missing link of the green belt around the city of Cologne. A change in the land use of an industrial area would provide the needed space to improve the green infrastructure for the city of Cologne. Therefore all the potentials and conflicts were analysed as well as the quality criteria for a new neighborhood center potentiated by this concept. Linking the existing open space systems, the development of the railway embankment with a new “fast bike route� and a new connection with the Rhine are key planning and design considerations which made this the winning proposal.

Wettbewerb „Wohnquartier Stingstraße/ Charlottenstraße“, Balingen

Ein Haus ist strukturell so aufgebaut, dass sich Wohnungsgrößen, Wohnungsmix, Wohnmodelle flexibel anpassen lassen. Dies wird zum einen durch Schaltzimmer, zum anderen durch eine flexible Grundrisseinteilung bzw. Variabilität ermöglicht. Je nach Ausbauvariante lassen sich hierbei verschiedenste Wohnmodelle realisieren, die vom offnen Grundriss mit fließenden Raumbezügen bis hin zur klassischeren Lösungen mit abgeschlossenen Privatzimmer-Bad-Bereichen reichen. Die Wohnungen verfügen über eine großzügige Eingangsdiele mit Garderobe und Abstellfläche. Die Küchen lassen sich aber auch abtrennen, kein Kinderzimmer ist nach Norden orientiert. Die Einzelzimmer sind so groß, dass sich das Elternschlafzimmer nahezu in jedem Raum nachweisen lässt. Durch eine Verkleinerung der Privaträume lässt sich anderseits aber auch der Wohn-Koch-Essbereich auf eine andere Größe anpassen. Die dargestellte Gesamtkonstellation lässt sich, wie oben erklärt, anpassen und variieren.

Städtebauliche und topographische Gegebenheiten Das zu beplanende Grundstück ist landschaftlich reizvoll in Hanglage am Etzelbach gelegen. Hangabwärts Richtung Westen hat man Blick auf die Silhouette der Innenstadt, die dahinterliegende Hügelkette und genießt den Sonnenuntergang. Zugleich besetzt es städtebaulich einen wichtigen Knotenpunkt: die Kreuzung der stadteinwärts führenden Stingstraße und der Charlottenstraße, Teil der ringförmigen Erschließung um die Innenstadt. In unmittelbarer Nähe liegen die Stadthalle und das Eyachbad, deren Freiflächen ebenfalls an den Naturraum Etzelbach anschließen. Es stellt somit eine Nahtstelle zwischen Innenstadt, Vorstadt und Natur dar. Städtebauliches Konzept Der Entwurf ist eine Antwort auf diese spezielle Situation. Er formuliert zum einen klare städtische Räume, die in die Innenstadt überleiten, und verwebt die bauliche Struktur mit dem umgebenden Landschaftsraum. Maßstäblich leitete er von der geschlossen Bebauung der Innenstadt zur offenen Bebauung der angrenzenden Wohngebiete über. Fünf identitätsstiftende Häuser formen Straße, Platz und Hof.

Entlang der Charlotten- und Stingstrasse erhalten die neuen Gebäude – in Anlehnung an die bestehende Situation – Vorgärten. Auf Stellplatzanlagen wird an diesen Stellen zugunsten des Straßenraumes bewusst verzichtet. Oberirdische Stellflächen für PKW befinden sich stets etwas zurück versetzt im Zusammenhang mit der Bebauung.

Die an den Straßen gelegenen Loggien können mit einer flexiblen Prallscheiben-Verglasung ertüchtigt werden und somit auch als Wintergarten und Pufferzone fungieren.

Barrierefreiheit Die Treppenhäuser und Lifte ermöglichen einen barrierefreien Zugang zu sämtlichen Wohnungen und sonstigen Nutzungen. Es sind also alle Wohnungen mit dem Rollstuhl zugänglich und prinzipiell lassen sich auch alle Wohnungen barrierefrei nutzen. Werden die vorgeschlagenen Niveauunterschiede innerhalb von Wohneinheiten realisiert, die den natürlichen Geländeverlauf folgen, befinden sich jedoch die barrierefrei nutzbaren Wohnungen innerhalb eines Hauses nicht auf einem Geschoss, sondern sind auf mehrere Geschosse verteilt. Die nach LBO geforderte Anzahl wird auf jeden Fall eingehalten.

Wie wollen wir wohnen? Alle Wohnungen sollen möglichst von der Stadt und der Natur profitieren. Die Situierung der Häuser und die Organisation der Wohnungen lassen Ein- und Durchblicke in verschieden Himmelsrichtungen zu. Stadt und Natur sind erlebbar. Großzügige Wohn-Ess-Koch-Bereiche öffnen sich über Eck und ermöglichen so ein vielfältiges Panorama. Die Häuser sollen das Gefühl von städtischem Wohnumfeld im Grünen vermitteln.

Wettbewerb „Wohnquartier Stingstraße/ Cha

Topographie Die Geländetopographie beleibt nahezu erhalten, was sich wegen den Anschlüssen an die Bachböschung und Straßenprofile empfiehlt. Auf aufwendige Geländebewegungen kann somit verzichtet werden.

Thermische Bauphysik Planungsgrundlage soll der Effizienzhaus-Standard sein. Es werden alle unvermeidlichen Wärmebrücken thermisch optimiert ausgelegt (hochwertige Isokorbkonstruktionen, Flankendämmungen etc.). Bei den Fensterflächenanteilen an den Wohnfassaden ist eine 3-fach-Verglasung mit außenliegendem Sonnenschutz erforderlich bzw. empfehlenswert. Auf Grund der mechanischen Lüftungsanlage wäre es denkbar, ggf. nur eine Zweifachverglasung einzusetzen (Komfort/ Wirtschaftlichkeitsabwägung). Den sommerlichen Wärmeschutz gewährleistet die außenliegende Verschattung an allen Fassadenöffnungen.

Baurecht und Abstandsflächen Die Vorgaben bezüglich GFZ, GRZ und Geschoßzahl werden eingehalten, könnten an einigen Stellen bei Bedarf aber auch städtebaulich verträglich geringfügig überschritten werden. Die Abstandsflächen nach außen sind gemäß den Anforderungen LBO eingehalten. Intern sind zu Gunsten der städtebaulichen Gesamtkonstellation und Raumbildung lediglich zwei Abweichungen notwendig, hier beträgt die Abstandsfläche jeweils nur 0,2 h statt 0,4 h.

Feuchteschutz und Grundlüftung Eine Feuchteregulierung und Grundlüftung der Räume kann weitestgehend über eine mechanische Zu- und Abluftanlage gewährleistet werden. Im Bereich der Wohnungen wird nach DIN 1946-6 zumindest eine Abluftanlage (Abluftventilatoren in innenliegenden Bäder und WC’s) zum Feuchteschutz bzw. zur Deckung der Nennlüftung vorgehalten. In den Fassaden können schallgedämmte Nachströmöffnungen Typ Ventomaxx o.ä. integriert werden (passiver Schallschutz).

Brandschutz, Flucht- und Rettungswege, Feuerwehraufstellflächen Die Feuerwehraufstellflächen im Hof sind nachgewiesen. Bis zum 2. OG sind alle Wohnungen direkt mit Handleiter anleiterbar.

Energiekonzept Es kann die primärenergetisch gut bewertete Nahwärme des Blockheizkraftwerkes Eyachbad zur Heizungsversorgung herangezogen werden. Die erforderliche Kühlung kann durch einen hohen Anteil regenerativer Anteile gedeckt werden (z.B. Grundwassernutzung). Gegebenenfalls können PV-Module auf den Dachflächen vorsehen werden.

A NEW LIVING IN BALINGEN

Freiflächen Im Innenhof entsteht ein fein aufeinander abgestimmtes System von halböffentlichen und privaten Freiflächen. Die bestehenden Höhen erlauben eine wohltuende Höhenabfolge, die privaten Gärten liegen höher, die gemeinschaftlichen Wege tiefer. Ein Spiel von Einund Ausblicken, von Nähe und Distanz ist möglich. Unterstrichen wird dieses Prinzip durch locker gestellte Bäume und geschwungene Wege. Kleine Räume und Plätze lassen sich im Großen genauso finden wie zusammenhängende Spielflächen. Die kleinen Bäume – zumeist Zier- Kirschen – erzeugen eine heitere Atmosphäre, die geprägt ist von Blüte, lockerem Baumschatten und prächtiger Herbstfärbung zum Abschluss

Das Haus –Flexibilität und Wohnwelten Die Häuser sind wirtschaftlich erschlossen. Zentrale Treppenhäuser führen jeweils in 3 bis 4 Wohnungen pro Geschoss. Es genügen insgesamt 6 Treppenhäuser zur Erschließung.

A new housing project for the city of Balingen was achieved on this competition. Regarding the open space design, the goal was to provide a finely coordinated system of semi-public and private open spaces. This design is allowed by the different heights where the private gardens are higher than the communal pathways and playgrounds. Through this design is possible to create different play areas framed by tree groups and an organic pathway system. Different stay areas are found in the same contiguous surfaces also belonging to the playgrounds, achieving a dynamic pavement design. The small trees, mainly ornamental cherries, create a cheerful atmosphere, magnificent autumn colors and shade areas. Along the Etzelbach, a public pathway connects the whole area to a new bridge making the link South-North.

TOPOGRAPHY CHALLENGE ANERKENNUNG

This project was a competition with the goal of expanding and reorganizing a primary school and the open space associated. The school expansion was done taking into account the add of three cluster to the main existing building (two at North and one at South). This school open scape design is characterized by an intimate integration with he surrounding landscape. At south, a new main entrance is developed and connected through a pathway along the slope. This connection is barrier free using a system of ramps and platforms. Planting design flows naturally from the river at South to the school slope and courtyard. The free form schoolyard at North is spatially effective providing a quality and spacious playground. Lawns, recreation areas with benches, as well as ramps and stairs are integrated into the rhythmic courtyard.
