OVE RVIEW Every year, the Alley’s Education and Community Engagement (ECE) Applied Theatre programming equips students and teachers with a creative, competitive edge. We deliver high-quality school and communitybased theatre programs that enhance collaboration and communication skills, critical thinking, and expand the imagination. Our programs strive to improve literacy skills, spark intellectual curiosity, celebrate community diversity and cultural heritage, and foster personal growth through social emotional learning. By using theatre to open minds and imaginations, Alley Theatre provides Houston youth with the skills they need for a bright future. Through K-12 school residencies and partnerships, student matinees, camps and conservatories, and internship programs, the Alley enhances and invigorates existing curriculum, providing disadvantaged and at-risk youth with new opportunities for self-expression and to build academic and career readiness.

Inspired by the traditional meeting places found all over Latin America, Alley Theatre’s metaphoric “El Zócalo” is an ongoing place-making initiative to celebrate, grow, and interact with Houston’s diverse Latinx culture and artistic community. Alley Theatre is proud to collaborate with well-established cultural and social organizations and Houston-area schools to foster community, and reinforce Houston’s presence as a diverse arts center that serves every neighborhood in its community.
