Thrift store workers learning tricks of retail trade By Jim Tracy AWARE’s Hope Thrift Store in Anaconda will never be a Dillards or a Vann’s, but it has begun to operate like those giant retailers. Emmett Barry, operations manager for the thrift store and work services in Anaconda, is putting his real world experience in retail sales and service to work in the two local operations.

Before joining AWARE last spring, Barry spent 35 years as operations manager for Hennessy’s (Dillards) in seven different stores in Montana, Colorado and Ohio. Most recently, he was the store manager for Vann’s in Helena for five years. Since he started at AWARE last spring, Barry’s emphasis has been on improving the Thrift Store, he told Ink in a recent interview. See Hope on Page 20 Community garden grows volunteers — Page 8
