AWARE team among Obama greeters at White House briefing


n Friday, Feb. 10, 150 leaders of The Arc from across the country met with senior White House officials at a Community Leaders Briefing to ask questions and discuss issues facing people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The session, held just for The Arc, included an unannounced visit from President Barack Obama. The

President spoke of his commitment to people with disabilities saying, “I’ve got your back.” This surprise appearance by the President of the United States was the highlight of the day for many attendees, including AWARE CEO Larry Noonan, Jeff Folsom, chief operating officer, and board member Stephen Addington.

Special Olympics team claims Division C title

Bowen was part of an eight-person team that won a championship in the co-ed C Division at the Special Olympics Montana State Basketball Tournament last November in Great Falls. AWARE Inc.’s Vipers co-ed basketball team was recognized recently for winning the Division C Co-ed 2011 Special Olympics Montana basketball championship. During a ceremony at the Hope Collectible and Recycling Store in Anaconda, AWARE CEO Larry Noonan presented the eight-person squad and coaches team championship jackets and individual framed photos of them wearing their gold medals and warm-up jackets. The Vipers competed Nov. 3-5, 2011, at the 2011 Special Olympics Montana State Basketball Tournament in Great Falls, where they defeated the Havre Thunderbirds (second), the Little Bitterroot Wild Horses (third) and the Y Otters A (fourth).
