Arcade: Metal Skirt Location: Intersection of Walton St and Clinton St, Syracuse, 13210 The project, located in downtown Syracuse, addresses the issues of vacancy, densification, reducing parking lots, and historical context by using the arcade typology as a device. The 7.5 feet grade change was reconciled with a grand staircase on the Clinton Street side which leads to a perforated copper screen that wraps the interior of the arcade. The screen regulates the amount of direct sunlight the secondary brick facade receives and allows the upper three residential floors to have more privacy.

We are proposing to build net zero energy student housing catering to the needs of university students. The Syracuse University Campus Framework plans to move housing from South Campus to main campus which creates a demand for housing near campus. It is up to the designers to tackle potential issues such as the east facing facade, lack of direct sun lighting, energy efficiency, harsh climate, and easy maintenance targeted at students who only stay for a year or less. We have partnered up with and been reviewed by the Syracuse Center of Excellence, Transsolar Klima Engineering, Eco Insulators Inc, Taitem Engineering, Kevin Stack, and Cann Geothermal Plus.
