The A.P. Moller Group is a group of independent private and listed businesses. With activities in more than 130 countries, the Group operates across a range of industries and employs more than 130,000 people worldwide.

Headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, A.P. Moller Holding is an investment company and the parent of the A.P. Moller Group. We aspire to be a ­long-term, engaged owner, leveraging the Group’s global networks and insights derived from 140 years of business building to generate long-term shareholder and societal value.

Ranging from large, well-established businesses to emerging ventures, A.P. Our corporate home

A.P. Møller House is the office of A.P. Moller Holding.

The building was constructed in 1873 to accommo­ date the Royal Danish Nautical Chart Archives.

We named it A.P. Møller House after our founder, A.P. Møller (1876-1965).

The House is located next to the A.P. Moller ­Foundation, the Mærsk family’s non-profit foundation and owner of A.P. Moller Holding. The Foundation donates proceeds to various societal endeavours every year.

GROWING WITH THE WORLD ECONOMY

As the shipping industry slowly transitions from sail to steam, Peter Mærsk Møller makes the decision to acquire the steamship ‘Laura’. A.P. Møller establishes the first companies in the future A.P. Moller Group.

The early shipping endeavours find success, benefitting from the trade ­conditions created by the First World War. The A.P. Moller Group grows into new business areas.

Recognising the growing global demand for oil, Maersk Tankers becomes one of the world’s leading tanker tonnage owners. Liner and bulk shipping ventures expand. The Group enters into manufac­turing, retail, and service.

1886 Captain Peter Mærsk Møller e ­ stablishes the Steamship Company Laura.

1918 A.P. Møller founds the Odense Steel Shipyard. The activities ceased in 2012.

1904 Supported by his father, A.P. Møller establishes the Steamship Company Svendborg, and later the Steamship Company of 1912.

1928 Maersk Tankers and Maersk Line are established.

A.P. Møller is elected Chair of the Board of Danske Bank.

1965 Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller assumes the leadership of the A.P. Moller Group.

1967 Maersk Supply Service is established. The company merged with DOF in 2024.

VERTICAL EXPANSION IN GLOBALISATION ­T RANSPORT AND ENERGY

RESTRUCTURING AND RENEWAL

Containerisation revolutionises world trade and Maersk Line adapts with timely strategy changes led by Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller. Mr Møller starts the Group’s new activities in energy production and offshore services.

A.P. Moller Holding becomes the parent company of the Group to safeguard its long-term viability.

1972 Maersk Drilling is established.

The company merged with Noble in 2019.

1979 Svitzer is acquired by the A.P. Moller Group.

In an increasingly globalised world, Maersk Line becomes the largest container carrier in the world. The Group continues to focus on shipping, terminals, energy production, and offshore activities.

2003 A.P. Moller - Maersk is formed by merging the Steamship Company Svendborg and the Steamship Company of 1912.

2012 Ane Mærsk Mc-Kinney Uggla becomes Chair of the A.P. Moller Foundation.

2013 A.P. Moller Holding is established and becomes the parent company of the Group.

From 2016 A.P. Moller Holding initiates a portfolio renewal and acquires or establishes A.P. Moller Capital, Innargi, KK Group, ZeroNorth, Faerch, Unilabs, C2X, and Maersk Offshore Wind, amongst others.
