From mainstream suites to higher end, architectural ranges and thermally efficient products, Vantage has positioned itself as a one stop shop where the right product, fit-for-purpose, can be sourced and specified with the back-up of New Zealand’s largest window systems company, APL Window Solutions. APL covers most aspects of the supply chain, which quality controls key steps in the business – from design and testing, to aluminium extruding, surface finishing and nationwide delivery to the Vantage manufacturer network. APL’s specifier services team are available to consult with architects and specifiers to ensure that the right products and the right advice are offered. VANTAGE | Range Overview

Residential Series Residential Series is a mainstream suite of aluminium windows and doors designed to suit a wide range of size preferences and product selection options. Different window and door types are available as well as specialised formats and optional product features, including hardware, glass and surface finish choices. Recommended door height of 2.1m, however doors can potentially be higher depending on site conditions.

Residential ThermalHEART A popular and versatile range of thermally efficient windows and doors for mainstream residential applications across a range of standard sizes. A polyamide insulator stitched into the core of every Vantage ThermalHEART extrusion acts as a thermal break. Recommended door height of 2.1m, however doors can potentially be higher depending on site conditions. A ThermalHEART roof window is also part of the offering.

Metro Series A stylish and versatile range of heavy duty windows and doors, Metro Series is based on a unified and contemporary design approach. It occupies an intermediate position between Residential Series and the high-performance APL Architectural Series. Recommended door height of 2.4m, however doors can potentially be higher depending on site conditions.

Metro Series ThermalHEART A thermally efficient range of higher performing windows and doors suitable for larger formats and more exposed locations where strength and structural factors are a priority. Based on the Metro Series of high specification joinery, ThermalHEART products include an insulator or thermal break between the aluminium interior and exterior. The transmission of cold from the outside is dramatically reduced. Recommended door height of 2.4m, however doors can potentially be higher depending on site conditions.


APL Architectural Series A high performance range designed to have strength and versatility to allow large formats and sizes even in exposed locations. Ideal for architecturally designed homes and apartments, APL Architectural Series products offer clean, flush surfaces, continuous sightlines and square-edges. Recommended door height of 2.7m, however doors can potentially be higher depending on site conditions.

Klima Series An innovative range of uPVC windows and doors, optimised for New Zealand conditions. Klima Series is adapted from products by Kรถmmerling, a market leader in Europe. Available in white as standard, however a coloured AluClip aluminium exterior facing is available. Recommended door height of 2.1m, however doors can potentially be higher depending on site conditions.

Commercial Series Overhead Glazing System For overhead or sloped glazing in commercial or residential applications. Bars with drainage and condensation collection systems are available.

40mm Window Series A varied, multi-product window system based on a 40mm frame platform. For low to high rise applications. Glazed frames and sashes for general commercial applications.

80mm and 100mm Shopfront A window system for shopfront locations, generally at ground level and in protected situations up to 6m in height. Can incorporate opening sashes from the 40mm Window Series.

Magnum Commercial Doors

Smartwood Offering the warmth of wood on the inside with the durability and convenience of aluminium on the outside. All products have a two-part construction: an interior timber cladding, and an aluminium exterior for durability and low maintenance. Recommended door height of 2.1m, however doors can potentially be higher depending on site conditions.

A versatile and robust commercial door system that can be hinged, pivoting, or sliding. Designed for mainstream and advanced commercial locking systems.

100mm, 125mm and 150mm Flushglaze System Suitable for low to medium rise commercial applications as well as shopfront uses. Glazing is near flush with the outside face, reducing the visual effect of aluminium from the outside.

125mm, 150mm and 168mm Structural Glaze System A four-sided, structural glazed commercial window system suitable for low to high rise applications. Three systems offer different levels of performance. The 168mm system has a thermally broken and shielded option available.

The Vantage online technical manual includes product data sheets, installation drawings and sectional details for a range of configurations for each product. Profile sections are supplied in a range of drawing formats – PDF, DWF, DWG, DXF. Revit (RFA) details are available for some product ranges including Residential ThermalHEART, Metro Series, Metro Series ThermalHEART and APL Architectural Series.

Masterspec Detailed specification clauses for Vantage products are available on the Masterspec website (masterspec.co.nz) under APL Window Solutions. Masterspec serves the New Zealand construction industry with a pre-formatted, up-to-date database of specification clauses, using an online interface to structure, edit, add support documentation and output to multiple formats. Note on R-Values and U-Values In the Energy section of each product page an R-value and U-value are assigned to that product, excluding glass. R-values refer to a material’s resistance to conductive heat flow, and a U-value is a related measure indicating material effectiveness as an insulator. The numbers outlined are indicative only and relate to a simple configuration of the product. Consult the APL Technical Department for more format-specific calculations, inclusive of glass. Another useful tool for calculating the thermal efficiency of a window or door configuration, inclusive of the glass chosen, is the Window Energy Efficiency Rating System (WEERS), which is a 6-star system assessing the thermal performance of the whole constructed unit. SURFACE FINISHING Powdercoating

SURFACE FINISHING

New Zealand’s most popular surface finish for windows and doors. It’s a baked-on coating that’s tough and durable and comes in a wide range of colours. Powder options are as follows: Duralloy: Used on most domestic and smaller commercial projects. Carries a 10-year film and colour integrity warranty. Suitable for applications more than 100m from high tide level. Mannex powder coatings from the Duralloy range have been introduced for use on entrance doors. These have a low-sheen surface highly resistant to marking and scuffing.

VANTAGE

Duratec: A highly durable polyester system for more severe coastal and multi-storey exposures. For properties greater than 10m from high tide level. Carries a 20-year film integrity warranty with colour integrity of 15 years depending on colour chosen. Fluoroset FP: This is a 100% fluoropolymer powder coating with outstanding colour retention and film performance. It is designed for use on headline commercial-type projects in environmentally challenging locations. Fluoroset FP offers a 20year warranty on colour, film integrity and glass retention. A popular colour range is available which has 35 colours. These are more economical in price than lesser sought colours and have more readily available colour-matching hardware. A booklet of over 80 powdercoat colours is also available.

Chromate-free: APL has a chromate-free pre-treatment for the powder coating of its aluminium extrusions. Toxic chromate formulations have been phased out and non-hazardous pre-treatments adopted. This upgrade is part of a wide-ranging APL strategy to reduce its environmental footprint.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE/WARRANTY

Care and maintenance/warranty

Vantage windows and doors comply with the New Zealand Building Code and the relevant New Zealand standards, NZS4211, Performance of Windows, and NZS4223, Glazing in Buildings – Parts 1-4.

VANTAGE

Our window systems are extensively tested to perform in New Zealand’s diverse weather conditions, meeting requirements for strength, deflection, weathertightness and air leakage. A warranty for all Vantage windows and doors is provided under normal conditions of use against failure of materials and workmanship for a period of 5 years. The surface finish of aluminium extrusions is covered by a separate performance warranty which is dependent on the actual finish selected. A hardware/componentry warranty is offered against defects in manufacturing, functionality and surface finish for a period of 5 years, providing care and maintenance guidelines have been followed (plated ‘soft’ finishes excluded).

Cleaning and Maintenance ■■

After house construction, builder’s debris or dust should be cleaned from the inside of sills to ensure that drainage holes are not blocked – specially applicable to doorways in regular use during construction

■■

Cleaning once every three months is recommended for windows and doors. In coastal or industrial environments more frequent washing will be required

■■

Cleaning with a soft brush with warm water and some mild household detergent is recommended. Rinse with fresh water

■■

Do not use abrasive steel wool, scrapers, scouring liquids or aggressive solvents or thinners. These are likely to damage the surface finish

■■

The cleaning cycle should include the removal of build-up in door tracks to ensure the maintenance of drainage paths

■■

Cleaning of hardware should be included in the cleaning cycle. Similar guidelines as above apply

■■

Stainless steel hardware may be the subject of rust spots – we recommend use of a mild abrasive cleaner, or in more acute cases, a Scotch-Brite cleaning pad. Specialised 3M Stainless Steel Cleaner and Polish is also available as an alternative cleaning compound.

Glass ■■

Glass is a very delicate product and care must be taken to avoid scratching or marking during cleaning

■■

Only detergents and cleaning solutions which are recommended for glass should be used

■■

Glass should first be soaked to loosen dirt then a mild, non-abrasive detergent solution applied. This should be rinsed with water as cleaning residue can permanently mark glass

■■

For double glazed units ensure no solvents come into contact with the edge laminate or unit sealant. Avoid cleaning tinted and reflective glasses in direct sunlight.

Smartwood Maintenance

To comply with warranty requirements and to ensure longevity of Smartwood windows and doors the interior timber face should be sealed as soon as possible after installation with an appropriate finish e.g. oiled, varnished, stained or painted, according to manufacturer’s instructions

Two measuring systems administered by the Green Building Council are the well-known Green Star rating system for commercial projects and the Homestar rating tool that measures the health, warmth and efficiency of houses and apartments.
