WELCOME FROM ANZ CHAMPIONSHIP This year’s ANZ Championship will be the proving ground for players seeking selection in their countries’ squads for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. I look forward to seeing competition for spots intensify with our top athletes striving to represent Australia, New Zealand, England, Jamaica and Malawi later in the year.

Welcome to the seventh season of the ANZ Championship. The 2013 season set a new benchmark for the league, ending on a memorable note with the Adelaide Thunderbirds becoming the first multiple champion. It was also the most competitive season in our six-year history with new records set for the most goals scored in a season; by the league in general, by a team (the Mission Queensland Firebirds, 944) and by an individual (Firebirds shooter Romelda Aiken, 667). I have no doubt that we will see the quality of games rise to another level in 2014. There have been a record 25 player transfers between our franchises and we welcome 13 athletes to their first year in the ANZ Championships. Among them is exciting young shooter Mwai Kumwenda, who has joined the Mainland Tactix as the first Malawi international after impressing in the Australian Netball League last season. Her appearance will only help continue to grow the interest world-wide in our league.

ANZ-CHAMPIONSHIP.COM

The league’s broadcast partners FOX SPORTS, SBS and Telstra in Australia and SKY Television in New Zealand play a significant role in the success of this league by providing the most comprehensive coverage the sport has ever seen. In 2014 all 69 matches will again be beamed live into homes on either side of the Tasman. Special thanks also to Radio Network in New Zealand for continuing its coverage this year. On behalf of the Trans-Tasman Netball League I thank all of our corporate partners for their continued support, including naming rights sponsor ANZ along with Jenny Craig, Foxtel (AUS), Holden (NZ), San Remo, ASICS, Scody, Gilbert, Intergen, Kent (NZ) and Australian National Preventive Health Agency (ANPHA) – Be The Influence. Interest in the ANZ Championship continues to grow every season and the coverage we receive from the media in Australia and New Zealand has been crucial in driving that growth. Since the league’s inception in 2008, more than one million spectators have passed through the gates at regular season matches. We look forward to seeing that tally continuing to grow well into the future. Thank you for your continued support. I wish you all the best for the 2014 ANZ Championship. Andrew Crook General Manager, ANZ Championship, TTNL Limited

WELCOME FROM ANZ Welcome to the ANZ Championship the world’s BEST netball league. Netball is more than just a sport to those who play and support the game. For ANZ, it’s about being part of one of the most inspiring and inclusive communities in Australia and New Zealand today. That’s why we’re pleased to welcome you to the seventh season of the ANZ Championship. As Principal Sponsor since the league’s inception in 2008, we’re committed to showcasing netball at this elite level, featuring the finest players from across the Tasman in a test of friendly sporting rivalry. Netball is the most popular women’s sport in Australia and New Zealand, attracting the newest enthusiasts right through to the top players of the ANZ Championship. We’re proud to support netball across our communities, including our sponsorship of NetSetGO, the only grassroots netball program in Australia, and our ANZ netball grant schemes,

which award cash support, uniforms and equipment to players and fans in New Zealand and Australia. These initiatives demonstrate the depth of our commitment to supporting netball at all levels, and towards fostering its next generation of players. Australia and New Zealand have dominated international netball for many years, winning between them every World Championship since 1963. Through the ANZ Championship, the world’s finest players are matched against each other in a series of fast-paced games - many of which are only decided in the last few nail-biting seconds. This year is shaping up to be bigger and more thrilling than ever. On behalf of everyone at ANZ, we want to wish the players and those involved in the 2014 ANZ Championship the very best for this season. Let’s take our seats and get ready for the games to begin! league FORMAT & RULES Stoppages for Injury or Illness The first stoppage for each team per quarter is up to two minutes. The player may be treated and may remain on court. In each subsequent stoppage for each team in a quarter (or extra time periods), the break lasts 30 seconds. The injured or ill player must leave the court. The injured or ill player may be substituted or the position left vacant. Coaching is permitted at all stoppages including injury or illness, blood and emergency.

extra time All games must play to a result – no draws are permitted. This includes all Finals Series matches. In the event that teams are tied at full-time in a game, extra time will be played. A three minute interval follows the full-time whistle, and then two periods of seven minutes will be played, with a one minute interval between periods. If teams are still drawn at the end of the second period of seven minutes, play will continue uninterrupted until one team has a two-goal advantage. This period is referred to as extended extra time. To indicate that the game has entered the period of ‘extended extra time’, an orange flag will be placed on the score bench.
