a journey from the past to the FUTURe June 2009 was witness to the 150th anniversary of something that radically transformed our city: the approval of the Plan for the extension of Barcelona, the work of the engineer Ildefons Cerdà. The Extension planned by Cerdà made Barcelona a reference of urbanism throughout the world and has become the true DNA of our city. We want to celebrate this key moment with a broad programme of activities for all citizens. The Cerdà Year is a chance to rediscover and explore Barcelona, to reflect on our past and to generate new questions on the future of our city with the same creativity and ambition that made the Cerdà Plan possible.
