MODELLING Hand Made Watch CARTIER SANTOS

I received a brief from my university lecturer to replicate a specific model of a watch to the exact measurements which I would need to find myself from product research The watch I replicated was the Cartier Santos. One of the features that set my replica apart from other submissions was the moving links on the wrist strap.

I greatly enjoyed this particular brief as it had very strict demands for the finished product. The name of the logo of the company had to be an animal of some kind while other aspects of the company such as the website, business cards must follow a distinctive theme.

Pet Cemetery was an unusual brief, to design a coffin for a pet of my choice. I chose hamsters as the pet that would fit in my coffin design. My concept was built around the idea that to make the process of disposing of a loved pet in an quick and hygienic way. My design allowed the user to use the box self assembly feature to pick up said pet in one swift movement without making any contact.

BIRD FEEDER Cost Effective HANGING FEEDER

For my Bird Feeder brief I strived to design a product that would both feed small birds but also keep them safe from the elements and predators. After further research I discovered that bird feeders also lose a large proportion of their feed due to larger animals landing on feeders and the contents falling out, so I designed a large radius, lightweight protector that is held up by a spring and will collapse once pressure is added, containing the feed. My material choice of cork was because from research, I discovered that many metal feeders will freeze over winter and this can lead to birds landing and becoming frozen to the metal. Cork is also weather resistant keeping the feed dry.

NON-LIT Design was a brief with the objective to produce a product like form, with interactive parts and details, like buttons and split lines, without the design resembling already existing products. Above is a collection of sketches and the process taken to have a final two forms, that would later be developed to a final model.

KENWOOD KENWOOD K-MIX HIRE KENWOOD K-KIT

The Kenwood K-Kit is a concept our group of five collectively created and developed from a brief set by Kenwood to reinvigorate the brand to make the company more attractive to the millennial generation demographic. Our concept was built on research that the millennial generation don’t find the K-mix cost effective for the amount of times the product will be used. This is why we developed a concept of renting out mixers with a pre chosen set of attachments. Once the mixer is finished with, the product can be placed back into the K-Kit along with the attachment case and collected to be cleaned by Kenwood ready for hiring out.

BATCH DESIGN DESK TOP PRODUCT WORK NEST

3RD YEAR

I loved working on this batch production brief as it gave me the chance to take inspiration and further research some of my favourite designers and their products for batch production. For my design I decided to use a wood lamination manufacture process, favoured by many, for its low cost and its aesthetic appeal. I decided to design a desk tray that would simply hold your desk items from loose paper to your pens and phone, keeping clutter concentrated but ready to hand

4 3 For the batch production brief I was told to describe and illustrate the major steps I took to manufacture one fully assembled Work Nest 1. Firstly the Cascamite glue must be evenly applied between two 1.5mm thick ply wood sheets with both sheets exactly mirroring each other.

7

2. The glue sheets must be placed above the jig making sure to place the two sheets correctly above the jig. 3. Once placed on top, both are placed within the vacuum bag and air is extracted with a pump and wait 24hours to set. 4. Place the bent ply form on top of the jig and band saw the edge to the jig’s specification leaving at least 2mm extra material on each edge. 5. Sand down the edges up to the jig making sure to move up the sand paper grade 6. Use CNC to cut the interlocking frame and slide in to place 7. Use jig and PVA to glue frame and bend ply together

CORNER Garden Of The Interior HANGING GARDEN

The brief that we were set by the University was simply named corner and was inspired by a MUJI design competition, that was devised to look at design in a more conceptual level, to create a product that had a sense of playfulness and witticism. Through research I found that with the increase of people moving to cities It has become more common not to possess your own garden. I have found people are in need of a connection to nature with indoor plant and herb gardens becoming popular features of modern interior plans.

CORNER Garden Of The Interior HANGING GARDEN

Throughout this project I strived to explore the use of literal corners in living spaces to find and develop a product that will make use of this space. Making sure not to replace established items already placed within these spaces, but rather to add and enrich an interior while keeping the product subtle but bold. I have taken inspiration from many products such as MUJI sold products taking a minimalist approach to aesthetics.
