Berlin gourmet street food AC-CA competition
NUL KITCHEN This project is an attempt to redefine the concept of street-food itself and to seek out in our globalized and capitalist society alternative futures of living together. NUL kitchen is a shared infrastructure to communities allowing several different uses. Sharing takes place in public space as an alternative to public and private property and it helps people with recovering and spreading their traditions. Culinary traditions reflect and define social interactions in every community and, at the same time, undergo a number of adaptations, broadenings, transformations, diffusions, just as if they gave birth to a sort of open-source cultural genealogy. NUL kitchen is a DIY, low cost, modular and flexible system, a structural frame of an unfinished - and therefore weak - architectural object that encourages people in order to facilitate collective and open design processes. It redefines interaction among people: there are no customers, no merchants, and everyone is an user. Boundaries no longer exist. Users can choose how to use it and the choice implicates a permanent settlement or nomadism. Multiculturalism influences urban environment and it is also influenced by the urban environment in turn: the permeable system allows their interaction by considering the need of every food culture. NUL kitchen consists of a lightweight transportable aluminium grid, made of seven blocks of three 80x80x80 cm modules. The grids can be combined an infinite number of times. It is completely neutral, it doesnâ€™t impose an aesthetic choice as it is a simple essential structure that can be used for any purpose. It is not a negation of style, but the style of negation. The combination allows it to be supplied with different items and movable countertops, capable of moving vertically thanks to a rack and pinion system. A stainless steel upholstery with a PVC covering is also provided.

What Ever Happened to Architectural Space? 120h competition Task: In the present time the architectural discourse has been shifted to a purely political and programmatic agenda. The current tendency implies a hierarchical order that doesnâ€™t consider composition and tectonics until the end of the development of a project. We challenged the entrants to take an antithectical position in order to think about architecture in its most essential and fundamental values. The aim was to revert the normal sequence of the design process. Is it possible to imagine architecture without site and program? If so how can they complement initial spatial qualities? Through the task of designing a house without function, architectural choices would define the project based on pure spatial qualities rather than economic or programmatic organisation.
Proposal In 1905 Berlage declared â€œSince architecture is the art of spatial enclosure, we must emphasize the architectonic nature of space, in both a constructive and decorative sense. For this reason a building should not be considered primarily from the outsideâ€?. Making room, digging, is the only condition that makes possible a pure spatial, non-formal analysis. Unlike the functionalist, mechanistic, non-reprogrammable, over-prescriptive architecture, our aim is to design a neutral space, an house without qualities. The user is the key. He and his stuff, carried in the house, characterize this waiting room. Our proposal is an instruction manual to create a minimum space. A first question could be generated: who is the owner of this house? Is it public or private? Can it be placed in every place? Letâ€™s imagine a network of owners of the right to use them, generated by the act of its construction.

A HOUSE FOR A BLIND MAN A space for a blind could be a very fascinating challenge. Our main interaction with space is based on view-control. If people with one sense less develope more the other ones, our challenge is to imagine a house forâ€Ś Bocelli, as a way to rethink the relation with space itself, and a way to empower the potential of it, and not reducing this condition to a debilitation. The plot chosen is located in Naples, in a residential area near the sea, with its related topographical complications. The access from the street is to the basement, as the plot is at a higher level. The first sign on the plot has been creating a defined area of action. A place where he could control and measure the space. A spine with columns every 2 meters splitting the plot, defining a guide for walking up and down. Other signs like pool, staircase and elevator defines the area of action, thatâ€™s basically an open space for clear reasons. The cross movements are facilitated by the presence of light and movable objects, like curtains. The autonomy of the structure permits to manage the space with autonomous blocks on the first floor. Three of them are unities for sons, and one block is a floating opened acoustic camera surmounting the piano.
Hedonistic New World - 2016/2017 Thesis project
The communities in the post-digital urban space The title of this thesis project alludes explicitly to the words of Guido Mazzoni literature critic professor at the University of Siena, who messianically defines, in his essay “I destini generali”, the modern person as the “poeta dell’attimale” (litterally the poet of the instant). “We live instant and fragmentary existences; we are looking for temporary intensities, our thoughts and projects, our passions are struggling to last. The obsolesence of the past and the future has begun long before than neo-liberism made so precarious the life of many: in this sense, the ideological equivalent of ‘ife is now’ is the trivialised interpretation of the Kojève’s theses [...]. The opulence has destroyed the past and the future before than the precariousness”1 Although in the last two centuries the urban development of the our cities was based on the distribution of the society in monofamiliar stable “community”, nowadays the web allows us every day to create manifold weak communities, composed by a number of “users” in continuous change, wich manifest their independence and vitality through the “separation.” By reference to personal evidences daily collected, half the time totally unconsciously, I have tried to represent in a way entirely distopic and fictional as the concept of “weak community”, the new statutes and the new programs of the DIGITAL ERA could constitute an alternative to the actual urban development and, in wich way they could be able to take action inside an urban superstructure and on its pre-existing buildings, modifying time after time the inner workings. “Because we’re so out of our minds with desperation, we don’t know any better. All we know is fake fodder and buying shit. That’s how we speak to each other, how we express ourselves is buying shit. What, I have a dream? The peak of our dreams is a new hat for our Dopple, it doesn’t exist! It’s not even there! We buy shit that’s not even there. Show us something real and free and beautiful. You couldn’t. Yeah? The HUB of the injustices will welcome all those people who will have the necessity to depose their own anxieties to unload their own stresses through oral or physical actions. This HUB will be a place where, indifferent, conspiracy theorists and populists can finally aim the finger against their enemies. A set of areas will be prepared for sterile debates, arenas for endless comparisons and there will be the full liberty to prepare endless parades to its inside during which the users will be fomented by hesitant and no-sense slogan. Inside the hub the atmosphere will be always brim, there will be continuous clashes among factions that will stop only at the exit of the selected site, peace will reign only then indeed among the users that will be so deprived of every resentment. Here all will finally have the illusion to be â€œactiveâ€? part of the historical and political show of the time in which they live. The abstraction from the plan of the present and its events wonâ€™t be a burden anymore to bear: here every idea counts how much the others, and it must be defended and represented.
Following the desire expressed by the HNW community the Hub of Vexations it will rise in aâ€™ island in the center of the bay of Tokyo.
The threshold of the Hub will be provided of a device of selection. The Labyrinth will guarantee the access to whom will show the authentic desire to take part to the present activities to its inside, through a perseverant research of the exact path.
The exhausted users and those people that will show impatience in the corridors of the Labyrinth can ask for the intervention of the supervisors. From the tall one of the two bases that surmount the area of the Labyrinth, these will handle to bring back them to the outside of the Hub.
The Teatrino della Politica will have as objective to stimulate the sense of indignation of the users through the continuous reproduction of an accurate selection of images and video with cynical and shameless content.
The arena will offer to the users the oppurtutniy to create small groups united by the same sense of indignation. In its center it will chronically be shown a representation of the most disrespectful event of the day, so that the users can exchange their own opinions to respect.
Inside the Closed Court the users can finally discharge between them the frustrations accumulated in the other structures. In this frank zone it will be possible to express him in the whole own aggressiveness.
The Three Idols will be erected as simulacris at back and call of the users. Their principal purpose is to be destroyed and aimed by every sort of vandalism.
In the area of the Swimming pool, at the end of all the activities, the consumers will have the opportunity to find again their temperance and daily moderation. Extinct every ardor in the preceding structures they will have the possibility to relax in company between them.
PORTO: NUOVA ESCOLA DE ARTES Archicontest competition
The New Escola de artes, opposes itself compact and opalescent to the façade of the historical center of the Center Portuguès de Photo, dominant presence within of the Largo Amor de Perdicao. Such void, excluded from the bulky building from the rest of the urban density, him opening itself on the opposite slope, where such density is interrupted by the chaotic Rua Campos dos Mártires from Pátria and from the Jardims from Cordoaria, becomes place of pedestrian crossings rather than space of standstill and sharing. The project of the school aims therefore to establish a new public dimension, placing in such way not to be obstructed its flows above quoted, but rather produc itself from them: its volume is produced in that portion of surface cut out there where the crossing is less frequent. The final shape is a triangular volume whit varying heights. The choice to set public functions in the groundfloor is dictated by the wish to make the active architectural object in any moment and so detaching it from the activities of the school of art, in order to furnish more possibilities in term of programs and of use. The groundfloor leans on a preceding lowering of the plaza (-1,50m), this descending “zone” gradually allows the passage towards the acces, therefore supporting the easy access the school and its services. Other two ways of access are: a curved ramp on the short side which directly grafts in the zone cafe/restaurant and the second one on the north side, that gives the access to a small foyer set on the side of the auditorium. A huge ramp conducts to the II level, the laboratories. The instability of program, subject to the free dynamics of the artistic production, is favored by the choice to infinitely make the whole area re-configurabile according to the demands of the artists/students. The modularity of the spaces allows, therefore, to fragment the 1000 available mqs in many different spaces, like exhibitions or handcrafting laboratories: in this way there are the two principal activities, free to contaminate each other and reciprocally meet, making the creation itself a performance.

A TYPICAL LANDSCAPE We accept the landscape that the mono functional office building has left behind and acknowledge it as legacy of the modern time. We also accept the fact that the mono functional office building has mostly failed and that it does not work any more in its current state. But we embrace the overall form, idealistic nature and scale of the overall project. We like the project’s utopian nature. Key to this exploration is that we do not consider one tower in isolation but we understand all 8 towers as the landscape. They have been developed as one – so we should treat them as one. We like to explore this landscape as the context for every day life. Situations as divers as they can get should help to understand the WTC as continuation of –but not as island in– the city. As new inhabitants we like to imagine: a home, an o ce, a butcher, a fruit-market, a kindergarden, a data-storage, a workshop, a cafe, a dental practice, etc ... The question is: how do you create a space (for each program) with minimum spacial intervention making most use of the existing landscape and furniture? Christopher Dyvik & Max Kahlen
