Concept Statement Project • Book Proposal Website Client • Donna Tartt, author of The GoldFinch Project Description • Creating a website that promotes the novel by Donna Tartt. The website will reflect the style of the front cover of the novel and the painting by Carel Fabritius. Target audiences • The target is adults between the ages of 25 to 40 and fans of Donna Tartt. Purpose • The purpose of the book is to give the reader a feel for the novel before they decided to get it. The site will give the user a feel for the book while giving the reader information about the book and the author. From this site the reader will be able to buy the book and find readings and tour dates. Obstacle • The obstacle is to find a style that will go well with the book while complementing the art piece that it is based on. Style & Tone • Artistic, Classical & Handmade Media • Web Background The novel fallows a boy named Theodore “Theo” Decker that lives in New York, New York. While visiting a museum with his mother in Manhattan a terrorist attack bombs the museum to steal its priceless artworks. His mother dies in the attack alone with many others and while an elderly man (Welton “Welty” Blackwell) is dying next to him being crushed by rubble from the explosion. Welton gives a ring and a message to Theodore and tells him to take a piece of artwork (The GoldFinch) and save it from the attackers. After the attack Theodore is left all alone with no family he is left to stay with a school friend (Andy Barbour). After a few years Theodore encounters his absentee father (Larry Decker) while living in Las Vegas. His father later ends up dying in a car accident. After a run in with a crime syndicate Theodore moves back home to New York. After moving home he starts working at a furniture store Theodore runs in to somebody that has been looking for The Goldfinch artwork since the bombing and discovers that Theodore is the one who took it. After returning the Goldfinch and another art work to the proper authorities Theodore is richly rewarded for it.
