Social innovations can contribute to finding solutions for the many social and environmental challenges Europe is facing today. Besides meeting social needs, social innovations can create new collaborations and positively impact society’s capacity to innovate. Several of these social innovations have successfully broken their local boundaries and have been scaled and adopted across Europe and beyond, creating jobs and spreading social benefits. We have put together consortium in order to be able to give practical answers on what are “social innovations”? How can we help them become more sustainable and grow faster? What are the key drivers for their success and failure? How can one increase the innovation capabilities of social innovators? The BENISI project, brings together 12 partners from seven countries to tackle these questions.

WHAT IS SOCIAL?
BENISI seeks to build a Europe-wide network of networks of incubators for social innovation. This network will proactively identify and highlight 300 of the most promising, impacting and employment-generating social innovations and create the conditions for them to be transferred and adopted in other European localities. This will expand their reach and impact, and simultaneously generate positive cascading effects across Europe on many key social and environmental challenges. Most importantly we expect the transfer and scaling of innovative social enterprises to address one of Europe’s most pressing needs: enhancing economic growth and thus creating new and meaningful jobs for a new generation of young people, in need of employment.
