On the artist: Abraham Genoels (1640 - 1723) Born in Antwerp (Belgium), he learned landscape painting from Jacob Backereel and Nikolaus Fierlants. He stayed more than 10 years in Paris, mainly at the workshop of Lebrun where he made designs for tapestries. In this time he learned etching from Gérard Audran. In 1674 he travelled to Italy and Rome and became member of the "bent" under the name Archimedes. The subject of his etchings is mostly the same as his drawings and paintings: classical landscapes with often arcadian accents. The influence of Poussin's style is clearly noticeable.
